ARGH! HELP! Blocked nose every night!

So every single night I have a blocked nose. It’s not always the same side and it occasionally happens during the day too, but the majority of the time is at night. It’s not allergies- it happens in different environments and antihistamines and dehumidifiers don’t help. I honestly don’t know what’s causing it- the only trigger seems to be at night. My nose isn’t actually runny or dripping, it’s just completely blocked on one side and I can’t breath out of that side. And the side switches a lot too

has anyone else had this ?! My nose has been looked at in the past (not for these symptoms) when I was getting a lot of nosebleeds and they said it was fine and I didn’t have any polyps or anything

anyone have any idea what’s causing this?!

That has happened to me since l had Covid a year ago. Every morning l am completely blocked and it's so annoying. Also have had some nose bleeds. No issue before Covid. No cure yet..sorry!

I get this a lot. I think its inflammation in sinuses.

Pseudoephedrine helps, but also can disturb your sleep a bit too.

Just after I posted this, my nostril that was blocked (the right) suddenly cleared and now the left side is getting blocked! It’s so bizarre.

Yes, taking Beconase nasal spray has really helped. For me it seems to be a year round thing and antihistimines don't help.

This might sound a bit mad but bear with me. I've long taken antihistamines most days as I have a real problem with sneezing fits (I've never suffered from hayfever but do seem to have a problem with dust and mould). It's often at it's worst after I've let the dog out for his post-breakfast wee and then I go back to bed (with him), which doesn't make sense as I don't have an allergy to stuff outdoors.

The slightly mad bit is that I'm convinced that as I've got older I've lost the hairs in my nose 😁. I'm not hairy and before I started going grey my hair was naturally mousy, but as I've got older I only bother to remove the hair on my legs when I'm going on holiday, because it's barely noticeable. I don't even need to bother with my armpits (I was never that person who wanted to never have a hair anywhere other than on my head anyway). I'm convinced that as hairs are disappearing off my body they've also left my nose. I think this has led to my nose being irritated by stuff that wouldn't get through before 😀. The suggestion of using vaseline in nostrils given to people who do suffer from hayfever during the season may be worth trying.

Try cutting out lactose from your diet.

MsGrahamCheese · 11/10/2022 00:45

Are you sure it's mot allergies? You might need a prescription anti histamine- otc ones aren't strong enough for me.

Have a look at sterimar sinus spray too

Elsamit · 11/10/2022 00:50

Try doing a daily saline sinus rinse to flush out irritants. The Neilmed sinus bottle and sachets are good and easy to use.

Vecna · 11/10/2022 01:08

You've tried antibiotics for sinusitis? I had that for maybe 2 months before getting it treated (because I didn't want to bother the doctor with a blocked nose when I was otherwise okay). Antibiotics cleared it in days. NOTHING else worked. I tried everything.

Huntswomanonthemove · 11/10/2022 01:08

I don’t eat anything with lactose in but I still suffer. Flixonase has helped immensely.

I have a blocked nose at night too. I’ve found that an air filter/ purifier helps. I often just have it on for an hour before bed. I also wear tape over my mouth at night (you can buy mouth tape on Amazon) to make me nose breathe at night, and I feel better when I do ( look up nose breathing/ mouth breathing). It’s interesting what the other poster said about hair loss as I also barely need to shave legs/ armpits now.
