Hands feet mouth disease? Picture
AnxietyLevelMax · 10/10/2022 20:17
Not going to lie but posting here for traffic as not sure what to do.
Son has a strange rush. No fever. 37.3 only but he gets more or less that easily and often. He was whinging and whining in the evening more than usual. Being fussy with meals all of the sudden.
Does it look like hands foot and mouth disease?
Childminder told me today when i picked him up to check it because if it is, he cannot come tomorrow. GP and pharmacies all closed at that time around here so it means I still need to take a day off to check it and cannot send him. I mean all of the kids he was around today at his childminder are probably infected now. I thought it was an allergic reaction to something as yesterday he was eating as always and wasnt really whinging much and never heard of that disease.
not sure what to do. GP will probably ask for pictures only anyway. As per nhs website if child is feeling alright there is no need to keep them home (obviously will see in the morning, but according to the childminder he was alright whole day besides no wanting to eat).
aibu to send him tmrw regardless if he is feeling alright?

My little ones had it a few months ago and had a rash like that on their feet to start….the rash didn’t seem to bother them but the ulcers in their mouth came after the rash and were incredibly painful.

Our nursery said only to keep them off in they have a temp and are clearly unwell, there's no incubation period and as you say it's probably gone round them all.
Our foot spots were more like blisters and there was so much drool, off food and bit grumpy. Get the ice lollies in as they were tolerated

I agree that it's HF&M. Not seen it in a child before, but my DH had it and was so ill that he was delirious. Therefore if little one's temp is raised I'd definitely be preparing to keep them at home and seek GP's advice.

I think it looks like HFM as well but I would do the glass test to rule anything worse out. If childminder has said she won't accept him with HFM then you can't just turn up with him. My little one wasn't allowed to go to nursery but I can't remember how long for...

Thank you all. What is a glass test? @Useitorloseit

You push a glass onto the rash and the red should disappear when you look at it. If it doesn't disappear then your child needs looking at in case of meningitis

My one year old granddaughter had this last week. Her rash was exactly like that. The nursery said it was going round. They wouldn't have her back until the spots had gone.
She was a bit quieter than usual and her mouth looked very sore, but she recovered quite quickly

Looks like H, F & M particularly as you mention him not wanting to eat. That will be because of the blisters in his mouth!
There is nothing the GP will really prescribe.
Most childcare settings will not want them
back until the blisters have all scabbed over and they are no longer infectious.
So prepare yourself to keep him home from the childminder all week!
I’ve recently had DD home for a week with H,F&M too.

Yes, looks like hf&m. There’s definitely a lot going around at the moment. There’s no exclusion for it but he’ll be miserable at a childminder even if she would let him back.
my daughter had it 2 weeks ago and was off 4 days and now I think she might have it again 😒

My dd had hfam at around 1.5 years old. Hers looked more like blisters and as others have said she was miserable, raised temp, off her food for about 2 days but spots took much longer to fully go. As others have said stock up on ice lollies and yogurts etc. We kept her off nursery for a couple of days but if I recall correctly she could have gone in.
I caught it few days after her and felt like total shit, could barely walk or use my hands and had a fever. All I kept reading online was that adults get it mildly though 🤷
