Costco and National Trust

Just read online that you can get trade membership at Costco if you're a National Trust member? Has anyone tried this?

I don't see the correlation between being a member of the NT and owning a business.

The qualification rules for individual membership are far more relaxed.

www.costco.co.uk/membership-individual-questions No mention of the National Trust that I could see in a very quick look.

Cookerhood · 09/10/2022 17:58

That was individual membership, this is trade:

I saw a TikTok about this a while ago, apparently there is no info anywhere online but the person filming contacted 10 different stores to ask. Of those I think 4 said it was a thing (and if you turned up to the membership desk with proof of NT membership they would sort it) and the rest said they had no idea what he was talking about!

Overall a bit bizarre but probably worth calling your local store to find out?

Invisableperson · 09/10/2022 18:09

It's not worth it, I've a membership but when I went a lot of things are more expensive than Tesco/Sainsburys/Aldi/Lidl etc so not worth it

Apart from being able to buy birthday cakes in larger sizes than supermarkets I don't see the appeal

Yes, but trade membership gets you cheaper prices

And cheap fuel. We easily make back what we send on reduced fuel each time!

Beneficialchampion2 · 09/10/2022 18:31

Costco is worth it for the fuel alone, I fill up my car once a week. On average Costco has been 10-12p a litre cheaper than everywhere else.

Saves me about £5 each time I fill up, so around £250 a year versus the £30 or so pounds it costs to be a member.

Hilarymantelspencilsharpener · 09/10/2022 18:35

Invisableperson prices may be similar but Costco quality is usually far higher - the fruit and veg, bakery products, chilled stuff is all excellent, as is the meat, but you need to watch as some meat, especially pork is from USA. And as previous posters have said, petrol/diesel is much cheaper.

Cookerhood · 09/10/2022 18:39

Prices aren't lower for trade members but you can go in earlier in the day.
There was an article only today in the Times. Plenty of things are cheaper at Costco than the supermarkets but you do have to be well off enough to buy in bulk.
The petrol is a great perk if your local one does it.

Arnaquer · 09/10/2022 18:43

I just googled. NT members get normal Costco membership . Costco is great if you live nearby but the discounts are all advertised as pre Vat so always a. nasty shock at the till!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/10/2022 19:01

I didn't realise they did fuel!
Does Leeds? I may reinstate my membership if so...

Leeds doesn't but Sheffield does, I'm just south of Leeds so even though Leeds is closest we will sometimes go to Sheffield instead if we have another reason to be in the Sheffield area so that we can get fuel!

I always say they should buy the Jet petrol station which is opposite the Leeds warehouse!

@Invisableperson I disagree. It's not intended to be cheap as chips, it's designed to be good quality for the prices and a place to buy in bulk. Catering sizes etc.

Ask around, someone might have a Trade Membership they're happy to add you onto.

I miss the convenience of a Trade Membership, but the individual one is ok.

Not heard anything from NT (I'm a member) about Costco, nor anything from Costco about NT membership. But I might just have not registered it as I already have both memberships.

worth looking into though if you want membership & don't otherwise qualify. (Though the permitted lust seems to get linger & longer!)
