DH has got DD to queue jump covid booster

littlewizza · 09/10/2022 11:52

DH had covid around 2 years ago and was very ill with it, he was in hospital for about a week with it. This was before vaccines so hopefully DH would not as ill if he got covid now.

DH has booked DD 20 for a covid booster as DH classed himself as vulnerable.
I am being un reasonable to worry about DD queue jumping as apparently she will receive a text when she is eligible for one.

DD has 3 covid jabs so far, so will be her 4th just like myself and DH.

If she's not eligible they wont vaccinate her in some places. Id leave it to the vaccination centre to follow their procedures

Sunnyqueen · 09/10/2022 12:54

I'm not vulnerable but I've been getting texts for weeks and weeks now to book my booster. I don't think anyone gets to decide where they are in the queue the NHS does that. Your daughter won't be able to queue jump.

Twentypast · 09/10/2022 12:54

How does she get a vaccine if your DH is vulnerable? I'm over 50 and not eligible. I've been trying to book. My DH is vulnerable and was called for his a few weeks ago. That didn't seem to make me eligible.

ExtraOnions · 09/10/2022 12:54

The more people vaccinated the better … DH & I went to our local drop in last week, and there was nobody there - I would much sooner see groups of 20 somethings getting vaccinated, that the facility going unused

It depends on why the other person is vulnerable I believe.

Over 50s won't be called til later this autumn.

There is a shortage of vaccines round here.

I thought it was just because he was under 16 that ds' texts to get his booster came up with "no appointments available", but loads of older people were telling me they had the same.
It took about 3 weeks of trying 2-3 times a day before I got his appointment.

But if she had covid badly, I would think she would count as vulnerable. You can't normally book them if you aren't eligible, so I would assume she is.

BaggieMaggie · 09/10/2022 13:08

My GP has sent me a text for a free flu jab and the booster. I’m only 32, have no health conditions, am a healthy bmi and don’t live with anyone vulnerable. I phoned them to ask and they said it wasn’t a mistakes and I definitely qualify. Dh (42), who is at the same GP, does have a health condition (though not considered vulnerable as per the list), has a very high BMI and is African. He doesn’t qualify but I do. I don’t get it 🤷‍♀️

My area does have plenty of vaccine due to a lot of people refusing the jab. Even during the madness of the first jab, I got mine when they were still doing the over 50s in some other areas as they had loads of free appointments.

VampireCat · 09/10/2022 13:10

There aren’t loads of appts here either- people I know who are eligible can’t get them until November. And a friend who is eligible made
an appt, got there and the nurse wouldn’t do it-
told her to come back in ten days?!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/10/2022 13:14

A lot of people I know aren’t bothering with further jabs.

liveforsummer · 09/10/2022 13:16

Our local vaccine facilities are deserted. If she was allowed to book she is allowed to get it. Not really queue jumping as there doesn't appear to be any queue

Interesting, I’ve just been for mine and over 50s went straight in. Under 50s had to provide proof of why they were there to a nurse.

Northernsoullover · 09/10/2022 13:17

Uptake is poor. You haven't jumped the queue. I'm of the opinion they should open it to anyone who wants one. I had mine and I'm 'only' 50. My mum only had hers the other day, a full month after mine.

Why is your DH meddling in your adult daughter’s healthcare for his own benefit? She’s an adult surely the GP wouldn’t let another adult interfere in her healthcare? It’s quite controlling, doesn’t your DD get any say in this?

Lol, i wondered how long it would take for a hysterical post like this.

ChilliBandit · 09/10/2022 13:17

I also asked about uptake in our area and was told it had been very high. I was there at 9am and had to queue for 20 minutes past my appointment time.

littlewizza · 09/10/2022 11:55

DH says he is vulnerable when I don't know if he actually is.

Could he be listed as vulnerable due to having been hospitalised with it?

Testina · 09/10/2022 13:22

Unless your daughter has learning difficulties, I’d be embarrassed that I’d brought up a 20yo who wasn’t booking her own appointments and making her own decisions. So if you want to get yourself into a tizz over minor things, try that.

girljulian · 09/10/2022 13:27

I got a text saying I was eligible, as I have for all the vaccines. Booked a slot, went in. When I got there they asked what my vulnerability was. I said I’d got a text, showed the text, explained I have coeliac disease and asthma. They said those were previously considered vulnerabilities but now aren’t, and I shouldn’t have been texted. They didn’t give me the jab, I was sent away.

focuspocus · 09/10/2022 13:34

I think it really varies. I'm sure there was a recent thread where someone was treated rudely and told off for going for the jab. My DSis is mid thirties and full time carer to our mum who is CEV. She got funny looks from others in the waiting area but the pharmacist was no problem and also asked if she wanted the flu jab whilst she was there. They wouldn't take payment either for the flu jab so not sure how that works.

I'm not sure of any of those apply to my husband but he was called for his 4th jab last month. He was called early for the 1st vaccine when it was released too. He has a heart condition and has had several surgeries so we assume it's that.
Either way, I don't seem to qualify for the booster. I've tried to book. I did get my 1st jab and booster early as I was a vaccine volunteer.

ChilliBandit · 09/10/2022 13:36

@focuspocus - carers get the flu jab for free in England, not sure about in the devolved nations.

LIZS · 09/10/2022 13:40

FourJags · 09/10/2022 12:06

Meh. I volunteer at a vaccine clinic. We don't care. The Autumn booster is different, we just take your word for it. We'll ask you what your eligibility is but we won't ask for proof.

There's plenty of vaccine, we've zoomed through the eligible older cohort and our clinics are quiet. There's really no queue jumping.

Not in our area. Dh had a nhs email to book but has been unable to do so and told to wait

RossPoldarksWife · 09/10/2022 13:43

Nottingham centre I went to was empty. Took my mum. Offered me and my daughter one too. Neither of us vulnerable. We had it. They’re both fine. I’m feeling very rough.

focuspocus · 09/10/2022 15:03

Ah thank you @ChilliBandit that makes sense.

Abraxan · 09/10/2022 15:58

You can't normally book them if you aren't eligible, so I would assume she is.

As far as I'm aware there is nothing of DD's or dh's medical records to state that they live with someone who is classed as vulnerable. I've just checked and simply by ticking the right box we can book both of them for an autumn booster.
I don't know if it relies on trust or if this is checked of and when they go. We won't book now until after our holiday away as the booster made me feel poorly for a couple of days or so this year so want to wait til they are back. Guess we can find out then, especially as I am unlikely to be with them when they go (individually.)

ZeroFuchsGiven · 09/10/2022 12:02

No they wont.

Actually they were asking when I went
People were showing the email that the immunosuppressed person they lived with had received.
