To be disappointed with my dehumidifier

I bought a Meaco 12l low energy dehumidifier a few weeks ago to help dry our endless washing instead of the tumble drier.

Thing is, it's not drying clothes. They're certainly drier than just leaving them in the clothes airer but they're not dry enough to go straight away. I've put it on 9pm-7am and there's 10kg of washing from the machine spread out over 3 different airers.

It's cost an absolute fortune and I'm so pissed off it's not doing what I bought it for.

Am I doing anything wrong?

I use a dehumidifier in a small spare room to help dry washing. the amount of water that comes out of that thing is incredible, but washing doesn't always dry quickly. Firstly is the room warm enough? The dehumidifier will help keep the room warmer, second of all I put my washing on for an extra spin after washing - makes a huge difference. I started doing this because my washing machine wasn't great at spinning but I am on my third washing machine since starting this and they all need an extra spin! (mid range washing machines). Third of all be careful how you hang clothes. I have one airer for light clothing/laundry only - This dries overnight and another two airers for heavier clothing but have space between the items. Space is important! A lot of my heavier items takes between 1.5 - 2 days to dry. I can dry maybe four washings in two days on average?

We have the same one. It worked initially but stopped working. Assumed it was us. Didn't bother using it over the summer. Have had another go with it and decided it was the unit and not us. Now it is out of warranty so very annoyed with ourselves.

Please take it back.

Trying again with a Meaco Arete 20L which is sitting upstairs doing the 6 hour settle. I really hope it works okay.

We had a Delonghi Ariadry for years that was bloody brilliant but that eventually died.

If you're using it to dry your clothes, you may have the impression of a dehumidifier. They don't dry your clothes, they help by removing moisture from the air, also preventing damp or mould inside your house.

I have a desiccant one in my conservatory. It dries clothes overnight. I bought desiccant because it works in cold rooms. I got it because the heated airer made the room so damp and found the dehumidifier did a perfectly good job on its own.

?

The dehumidifier we've just bought is designed to dry laundry. It says it in the product description.

The Meaco models and others have dedicated laundry modes (basically just a single button for full fan speed and target RH below 40%). So long as the room is sealed to avoid more moisture coming in, the heat and dryness produced by the dehumidifier will get clothes done super quick for a fraction of the cost of a tumble drier and without the space penalty.

I got one two days ago. Had it on overnight on Sunday and most of the day today. It says the humidity is 65% and temp 20 degrees. No laundry mode. Problem is, it's hardly colleted any water, just a few cm's. What am I doing wrong?

We have a dehumidifier which we use for laundry. It lives in the bathroom, and we hang washing on a drier in their, and then keep the door shut. It's important to ensure that the filter is clean (just check that it's not got anything on it stopping the air getting to the filter) - we regularly hoover it off and I run it under a tap to clean it too regularly. If you leave the door to the room open it won't work as well - it works best if it's closed so that it can warm up and work efficiently.
