Not sure my subject title makes sense! But if you work from home or hybrid work do you ever go out to a local cafe or library or anything to work to mix it up a little? I never really know what you are ‘allowed’ to do when working from home!

I can't work outside due to sensitive data. I can go to the office but no one is ever there. I'm moving departments soon, more people go in I'm told so I plan to do 3 days per week in the office. I can't wait.

AutumnalCosyness · 09/10/2022 10:05

Yep I go to a local cafe sometimes

Justwanttobebythesea · 09/10/2022 10:09

I wfh and will go to a coffee shop if I am procrastinating over a difficult task The change of scenery helps. Also in the heatwave it was nice to go somewhere with air-con and in the winter as we won't have the heating on in the day if it's really cold I'll go somewhere with heating.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 09/10/2022 10:11

Nope. Confidentiality reasons but I’d like to be able to.

I don’t but not because I’m not allowed. I like to use 2 screens and have a lot of meetings so it wouldn’t work.

Same scenario here.

Loads of people work from my David Lloyd, no problem with the laptops and occasional call but was fascinated to watch a woman on the phone for a solid hour the other day. She obviously works in some capacity with airports. It was seriously fucking annoying.

Also had two men working in the basement of a local cafe the other day. The cafe is tiny and has, off the top of my head, 4 tables upstairs and 3 downstairs. Upstairs was full so my friend and I went downstairs to see these blokes on teams calls, no headset etc, looking pissed off at our arrival. Friend wanted to leave, I said no we'll stay and talk normally. Thankfully they left after about 15 minutes, shooting daggers at us on their way out.

I work in a co-working space some of the week.

I'm a data scientist so once the company vetted the space and the security aspects it was signed off.

Coffeepot72 · 09/10/2022 10:23

My boss mostly works from David lloyd.

I also work from David Lloyd occasionally. I couldn’t do it all the time, I generally work on 2 screens and do regular teams calls. But if I fancy a change of scene on a Friday, then I take my lap top down to David Lloyd. I notice quite a few other people doing the same!

PomPomChatton · 09/10/2022 10:25

I don't think I could focus in a cafe, but I've worked from a friends house before when it was school holidays and I needed to separate myself from kids at home and the fiend was away.

Mostly I get a change of scenery by moving rooms e.g. taking calls in the sitting room instead of at my desk.

lljkk · 09/10/2022 10:25

I don't work well on a laptop only, only recently (Sept 2022) got a decent laptop, too.

LughHaurie · 09/10/2022 10:26

For those of you that do go to a coffee shop for example. How long do you spend there and do you keep buying drinks? I wfh and have thought about going to a coffee shop but it seems like too much hassle for an hour

CongratulationsBeautiful · 09/10/2022 10:37

LughHaurie -I'll go for half a day - get a couple of cups of coffee, maybe a brownie or something.

Malfi · 09/10/2022 10:39

No, it’s not possible. I have a PC with specialist software, firewalls, two monitors and other equipment.

Yerroblemom1923 · 09/10/2022 10:41

No. You're not allowed, depending on the toe of work. My friend usually has friends round for coffee/ lunch etc to break her day up a bit and so they can entertain the little one for her if need be eg face to face call where she can't be disturbed.

Yerroblemom1923 · 09/10/2022 10:42

Type! Not toe. When will MN get an edit post feature?!

shrunkenhead · 09/10/2022 10:45

@Coffeepot72 how do you all manage to balance the laptop on the treadmill???

Mislou · 09/10/2022 10:50

when I have a recorded training video to watch and don’t need to speak , I’ve watched on the iPad and listened on my earphones in a local cafe - It’s good to have a change of scene. I have a desktop computer but am thinking of getting a laptop so I can work out of the home more - to escape Dp’s zoom meetings in the next room.

mountaindewview · 09/10/2022 10:54

I'm not allowed to for confidentiality reasons. I'm not allowed anyone else to even see my screen when I'm working so I have my office door shut.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/10/2022 10:58

No. I like peace and quiet to work. On the 1 day a week I have to go into the office I know I won't get much done because of noise! I also do a lot of Teams calls which would be impossible in a café type situation.
