What anti-ageing treatments are worth it?

Anyone had anti-ageing treatments that they would recommend? I’m in my 40’s. I’ve heard of Botox and PRP (platelet rich therapy). I’m worried about looking scary and fake.

From what I can work out, Botox, (small amounts of) fillers, isotretinoin, and some people like that one which isn't a filler but is meant to get your skin to produce more collagen to plump it up.

Loads of my friends have Botox and you can't tell. Some if my friends have their lips done and fillers subtly, if you know what you're looking for you can usually tell, but most people would have no idea.

Others have gone over the top!

Have looked into profhilo? A few of my friends have had it and they look great.

That's Profhilo.

I've had Jalupro (like Profhilo but a different brand) and I looked amazing afterwards - dark shadows completely disappeared and skin looked lovely and plump. Unfortunately the results only lasted a couple of days. Not worth the money imo.

Lots of people have had great results with prescription Tret but my skin reacted terribly to it, even after months of persevering. One thing that has worked really well for me is facial massage. I bought a facial roller for about £25 from Amazon and it's made a huge difference with my eye bags. If I don't use it for a few days my eye start to look puffy again.

A lot of my friends have had botox/fillers and they've all ended up looking terrible. Weird puffed out faces that don't move. I'm in my 30s and I'm trying to just make the best of what I've got with nice products and healthy living. I love the Body shop Vit C/Edelweiss (used to be Drops of Youth) ranges and The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid/Marine Hyaluronics.

Plenty of sleep, no alcohol, lots of water and fresh plant based food will make your skin look nice. Ageing sucks but I'm trying to accept that it happens to everyone.

You could also try microneedling? The results are subtle but my skin does feel and look nice after the soreness wears off.

I say this kindly. Don't be scared of looking older. Live your life and make the most of it. Your inner self will shine out. Unnaturally plumped up faces on old people look so false and devoid of character. Wrinkles - laughter lines - show individuality. Good luck.
(I'm 75)

Just try botox or fillers but only use say 1ml so you do not go mad. I did that last time. I just had 1ml dermal filler although it was primarily to save money. 1.5ml still looks ok on me but I am 58. So my face ideally needs it lol. Mine looks really natural every time.

Do not have too much to see how you get on.

Tigofigo · 12/10/2022 23:10

It is really expensive (prices have gone up a lot) and it's hard to stop once you start so I'd only do it if you have the funds too.

VladmirsPoutine · 12/10/2022 23:16

Regular facials and peels too.

mauveskies · 12/10/2022 23:46

Ingest olive oil.

Mellowday · 13/10/2022 00:18

Tretinol.
Fillers ..done well, tp replace the lost fat pads and give facial structure.
Exercise and sleep.

I was hesitant about anti-ageing treatments too, but PRP at Healand was a game-changer. It's like hitting the refresh button for your skin, and it's all-natural, which is a huge plus.

bearnhouse · 08/09/2023 17:04

I'd only have minimal Botox with a plastic surgeon type doctor. PRP yes also.

With Botox seen too much where it's gone wrong, from the surprised look, the heavy brow, or the drooping eye and one drooping side of the face - in that case the aesthetician tried to make my friend think she'd had a stroke or Bell's palsy rather than the Botox days earlier.

Some fillers perhaps but minimal as dissolving to put something right (should really only be used in emergency) can cause its own problems and will dissolve your own hyaluronic acid.
