Creeslough tragedy
Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 08/10/2022 09:27
Many of you will have heard about the explosion in the small Donegal town of Creeslough. This devastating tragedy has so far claimed 7 confirmed deaths with more expected. This is a tiny village. It was prime treat Friday sweeties after school time. This will impact every single family in the village and surrounding area. To give you an idea of the size of this small community there are less than 25 children in the village primary school. Please hold the locals in tour thoughts or prayers today as there are still people trapped or unlocated. 😢
Am I being unreasonable?

It's so tragic how can this happen in this day and age, with so much health and safety.
God those poor people.
The fact that there is so much 'health and safety' is actually on display here. A massive explosion happened over a petrol station and none of the petrol ignited. If there wasn't such care taken with petrol pumps and tanks, this would have been so very much worse.

Craicnet is just for Irish posters. Is a tragedy in Ireland not news enough for the rest of the world?
I agree too.
im so sorry for all affected. it’s so terribly sad.

I don't understand why this isn't being woken about everywhere, nobody in real life I've spoken to today has known what's happened. I only know because a relative in Ireland told my dad, who told me.
I am so, so sorry for everyone involved, those who have lost, those who are hurt, those missing, and those searching. Absolutely tragic and heartbreaking.

It's the 2nd story on the BBC news app, and on the Daily Mail, it's on the Sky News world homepage and Creelsough is trending on Twitter.

Well there have been some really scandalously poor construction standards in Ireland over the past 20 years (see pyrite and mica) and it could be that the gas piping in the apartment building behind the petrol station was dodgy. The explosion originated there rather than in the petrol station.

There was to be a car rally held nearby today, anyone familiar with Donegal will know the popularity of any motor sport event held there, the 100+ marshal's for the event were due to gather at the service station this morning, the local B&B's, hostels etc are full of rally competitors, volunteers and spectators, I know one whose car windows were blown in by the explosion, he'd not long left the shop after getting a coffee, this tragic event will scar a lot of people, the rally motorsport family of thousands love attending events in Donegal because of the friendliness and enthusiasm of the locals, may they all be strong together and look after each other.

I didn't know the village is so small. This must be devastating to everyone who lives there, and beyond.
My heart aches for everyone affected.
My instinct is 'what can I do?', but I know that a financial appeal at this stage won't help. And nothing will ever make things 'better' for the community or the individual families. But I'd want to support a future collection that will create resources for the community - both physical as well as all the mental health support they need in whatever form works best for each villager.
