If I'm pissed I must have had too much to drink?

I know that in the US "pissed" is used where in the UK it would be "pissed off". AFAIK they don't use "pissed" to mean drunk. AIBU to find the dropping of "off" in the UK quite annoying as it confuses things which used to be really clear?

My dd says this and I find it annoying but 🤷‍♀️ language evolves and we don't have control over that.

Ah well, some of us have a keenly attuned ear, an awareness of language drift and change, and are interested in the reasons behind it.Some of us can't see the point of discussing that. Fair enough.

If someone said to me they were pissed I'd instantly assume they'd been drinking, yes.

But I think it can be confusing! "DH came in stupidly late last night and we had a huge row. I was really pissed."

And quite clearly in that example it means angry. It’s not confusing.
