Been asked to park my car further away from my house to be more convenient for person's guests

We rent a terraced house on a green with no parking. There is space outside our house for one car and the other has to go somewhere on the green. Someone on the other side with a drive has just asked me not to park my car near their house as it is inconvenient for their guests and work men. They wanted me to park it on a separate street further away from where we live. Was I being unreasonable to tell them quite sharply that I would love to be able to afford a house with a drive but there's a housing crisis and I can't. So my car can be parked anywhere legally that I fancy. I don't understand people who think they own the road outside their houses.

@purfectpuss owning a drive means you get the exact same right to on street parking as your neighbours without a drive Hmm

I think it's the rarely moving thing that would make it so irritating. Most people would move their car everyday so you'd have a chance of the space at least some of the time.

The worst offenders are the transit van people. Funny how it's always the huge white view blocking van that is outside my house for the entire weekend and not outside their own house. That's reserved for their nice car. They don't even live on my street.

Is the space on their own drive not big enough for workpeople?
The only reason I could imagine anyone asking, is if they need access and a lorry can't fit on their drive.
Otherwise that's ridiculous.

Sharp response is correct - don't even give them the hint that if they keep pushing you might give in. Nip that crap in the bud straight off
