To sell things we were given as gifts online?

Two young DC. Generous family members bought clothes and toys over the past years. Some of which is unused. Nothing fancy but few John Lewis baby things with tags and some pricey toys which have been ignored by DC.

Both DC outgrown clothes and some toys.

AIBU to sell them online?

Feels cheeky making money out of them. Could give them to charity shop (and will do for some of it) but could really do with a little extra money.

I think it's fine if they're in good condition and the little ones have grown out of them. If anyone asks I'd just say they'd loved them, grew out of them but they were still in such great condition felt a shame to throw away

Sell them and give half the cash to charity if you feel bad about it.

I personally just donate them but there's no reason not to sell. I'd avoid Facebook market place though as its not nice if people see the items they bought being sold, do it discretely.

Just tick hide from friends on marketplace and no one on your contacts list will see your listings.

Yes of course sell things on. We sell things on when ours have outgrown stuff so we have the funds to buy them things they will use.

I sell all my kids stuff and use the money for more new things that they need
If I have brand new un-used clothes/ toys or gifts I re-gift them or sell them. Everyone I know would do that.

AnneButNotHathaway · 10/10/2022 11:22

i think it's absolutely fine. These items are yours now and you can do whatever while they are kept in a way they should and the condition is good.

Sleepyquest · 10/10/2022 11:30

I do this. Family and friends aren't going to want them back and I use the money to buy more stuff for my children. I get sad selling them but otherwise they'll go in the loft gathering dust?

I agree with this approach

Your generous family members bought things to benefit your children. The money you make will benefit your children (assuming you don't plan to stick it all in a "Kid-free trip to Vegas" slush fund). So think of it as extending the life of the gift and the money they invested in your family.
