To feel uncomfortable at the way Liz Truss had the green peace peace protesters removed during her speech?

Now I don’t know a lot about politics, however saw part of the speech on the news today, and I just found the way those green peace protesters were dragged away made me feel really uncomfortable. They seemed to be just holding up a poster in a peaceful way, but the retaliation seemed quite violent. Surely that reaction wasn’t necessary?

Are people not allowed to peacefully protest or have free speech?

Fracking is the way forward if we don’t want to be personally bankrupt due to extortionate energy bills.

No it isn't. At least, not according to the founder of Cuadrilla:

...and you don't care if people's homes fall down or their walls crack or the foundations get damaged.

Several conservative leaning presenters I’m sure

Actually it was Shelagh Fogarty who first mentioned him - she's definitely not a conservative.

At least, not according to the founder of Cuadrilla

The article says he resigned from the company in 2014 and the current CEO 'welcomed the announcement that the moratorium would be lifted'.

Why the angst? I've seen protesters dragged out at Political rallies and conferences of all the Parties, over the last 50 years or so!

They ejected a Financial Times photographer today too

LBC's political editor was manhandled at the Labour Party Conference last year;

I have just been been forcibly removed from the JVL fringe event at the Labour Party. It is an official event in the Labour Party guide.

Im no fan of Liz Truss, but the protesters were shouting during her speech - I imagine they were fully expecting to be removed. It seemed completely normal practice to me.

No different to a protestor invading the pitch at a sports venue. Get them out, they have no right to protest at a private venue. Stick to the public right of way if you want to protest.

If you support or empathise with this type of behaviour, then you better get ready to back a revolution and the eggs it breaks to make an omelette. Fair enough if that's the price you're willing to pay.

she is like a medieval queen who rules by a look or silent decree
She reminds me so much of Queenie from Blackadder though

toomuchlaundry · 05/10/2022 22:11

At least one of the protestors was grinning as they were ejected

I tweeted straight away as I was horrified. The hatred in the men's face that were grabbing the signs. The one behind them smirked and sought permission from the older guy before he grabbed the second sign. I thought the security guys were reasonable. But then one of the organisers snatched their IDs aggressively from their necks - no need to do that!
Yes considering Liz had said she wanted women to feel safe she was certainly happy to see those two treated badly by Tory's-not security!

I think this is why I found it so uncomfortable to watch… Seeing those men manhandle those women protesters the way they did just seemed totally unnecessary… There seemed to be more hatred and violence than what was actually needed. It just wasn’t dealt with in a pleasant way at all.😕

I'm with you Chloefairydust. Not about the issue or anything other than the look on mens faces as they grab at women. Aggressive and discomforting. I think it was an ultimate display of privilege and disdain by men towards women.

This

The feeling watching that gave me was the exact same feeling I had when watching the news in lockdown, and seeing those women protesting for womens safety (at that vigil for that poor woman who was murdered by a police officer) and seeing all the police that were man handling the women in the protest. It’s just awful to watch and scary how many violent men are out there, especially ones with positions of power.

You’re not wrong OP. More force should have been used to get rid of these useless idiots.

Blossomtoes · 06/10/2022 16:20

Ffs, how much more force did you want? There was more than enough.
