2 Pack Self Ear Piercing Gun Earring Disposable Ear Stud Gun Kit Sterile No Pain Ear Piercing Gun Kit Tool (AB Blue) amzn.eu/149WzCj
This has come up on my Facebook ads. I'm shocked. How can you buy a gun to pierce ears yourself? Is it me or is that terrible

Tbh op it's better to use this than some of the many ways I have pierced (or indeed tattooed) myself over the years 😂

The most stupid was piercing my belly button using a frozen sausage to numb it and then realising the needle was a much smaller gauge than the jewellery 🙃

MuddlingThrough1724 · 05/10/2022 21:45

I worked at Claires as a summer job once - you wouldn't have known as a customer because chirpy "I've done this 100 times" face, but Piercing training was 5 mins after work on a piece of cardboard, or the shop managers ears. No experience, virtually no training, and so to be honest, you'd do as well to do it yourself at home!

PinkSyCo · 05/10/2022 21:56

I’ve used them with no problems at all. I don’t really get the angst. 🤷🏻‍♀️

user26189065 · 05/10/2022 21:58

People have always used those guns, I can remember being around peoples houses in the early 80s and people having them

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/10/2022 22:07

Well I guess my eyes have been opened because although I knew people did piercings and tattoos when younger I didn't realise it was this common

@QuietQuietBang I didn't say any laws were being broken

Then why should it not be sold? If someone wants to sell it, someone wants to buy it, and it’s legal then where do you think the “should” comes from?

WTAFSomedays · 05/10/2022 22:13

It’s the ear piercing gun version of Darwinism. Can’t get that upset about it personally.

belimoo · 05/10/2022 22:14

For those who pierced their own ears, did they heal ok? I pierced one of mine (third in that lobe) with a needle and wore an earring in it a handful of times. That was around 25 years ago and it still hasn't healed over and builds up gunk in it every so often (sorry for tmi).

Bumblefuzz · 05/10/2022 22:16

Hotandbothereds · 05/10/2022 20:43

Did you find doing them yourself easy or is it better to get someone to do it for you do you think?

I was thinking of getting a third but might just buy one of these instead.

misses point of thread entirely

It would probably be easier for someone else to do it, just because it's difficult to see your ear as you do it. I'm right handed so the left was difficult to make sure it was lined up when doing the 3rd. To be fair though, it wasn't difficult. I literally did them 5 mins before we were going out. It didn't take any longer than changing earrings.

I was the person that did a DIY helix piercing when I was 14 though 😂

RiftGibbon · 05/10/2022 22:16

belimoo yes, mine did. They are better placed than my original piercings too (seems I can only see straight when drunk). I've added a couple more (professionally done) since.

PurpleIsTheNewPink · 05/10/2022 22:20

Don't remember how a gun works but what if you miss your ear and fire the stud into your head instead..

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/10/2022 22:20

My DD pierced her 85 year old nans ears with one of these on xmas day last year 🤣

44PumpLane · 05/10/2022 20:17

To be honest this is surely no worse than going to get your ears pierced at Claires Accessories?!

I would never use this, or Claire's, but there will be a market for it (as demonstrated by the several thousand feedback scores) and to be honest if it was this or Claire's I'd choose this as I'd have more control over the shit show 😂

Mine were done in Claire's when I was 11. I don't see why it's any worse that getting it done anywhere else. In fact I think Claire's is preferable as it's a well know high street chain.

@BigSandyBalls2015

Woah!!!? Tell us more.

toddlingtortoise · 05/10/2022 22:24

I’ve done a couple of my own piercings with these. It doesn’t hurt and I’ve had no issues whatsoever

Oh yeh. Any my nose and eyebrow. Ironically the ones that were not ok were my nipples and my tongue which were done professionally but then I was told not to smoke or drink for 24 hours after my tongue and I did both within an hour of leaving the place. I also got it done at 15 coz I took my 19 year old cousins driving licence then went to the pub

GordonShakespearedoesChristmas · 05/10/2022 22:24

Loathe being in Claire's when they are piercing a tiny child who is screaming. I have to leave. Happens so much 😞

Stevie6 · 05/10/2022 22:35

Back in the 90s my nose was pierced with a gun, never had any issues with it. Also pierced my DMs and several friends ears using frozen chips to numb them and the pushing a stud through, again never any issues

OneTC · 05/10/2022 22:38

Have had 5 piercings in my ears and only ever used a pin, a cork and a friend.

The disposable aspect aside this kinda seems like progress Grin

Beepbeepenergy · 05/10/2022 22:59

These have been out years

Am1beingUnreasonable · 05/10/2022 23:08

So weird I saw this because I ordered a similar set yesterday and Amazon says they’re due tomorrow 🤣 I’ll let you know how it goes!

(paid £54 in Claire’s last week to have my first set repierced and was taken aback by how overpriced it was!! They use these same disposable single use guns so I thought I’ll just do it my bloody self next time, so here I am)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/10/2022 23:32

@QuietQuietBang I guess I just meant should people be let loose on these things. Like you wouldn't start doing procedures on yourself.

I’m guessing teenagers still pierce each others’ ears with darning needles and ice like we did so it looks like progress to me too 😁

Well amazon sells surgical scalpels etc as well so... Nothing is stopping anyone should they be that way inclined.
