and juices left over from roasting meat. Apart from making gravy, what does everyone do with theirs?

My mum used to have a "dripping bowl" by the hob. All her meat fat went in there then got slung in the frying pan to make fry-ups. Utterly grim when you think about it but damn her fry-ups were amazing.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 05/10/2022 19:10

Put it in a bowl, put it in the fridge. Once solidified, put in bin.

MomwasCasual · 05/10/2022 19:10

The chickens get it, or the dogs don't tell husband

Oh God my mum had one of those too come to think of it! I don’t actually know what she did with it though.

I use beef dripping on my roast potatoes.

InCheesusWeTrust · 05/10/2022 19:15

I freeze them separately and use for bit of eaxtra flavour in different dishes.

My dogs used to get mine too, but sadly I am now dogless. Am chickenless too come to that (if you don’t count the one in the oven).

wait for it to set then chuck away

SiobhanSharpe · 05/10/2022 19:16

If it's beef dripping I put it in a bowl, and either freeze it for use the next time I'm roasting a joint of beef, (it's especially good for the roast potatoes) or when it's cold and set, I spread it on crusty bread with salt and pepper. Delicious, especially if you've put garlic on the beef before roasting .
I might save pork fat for making rillettes or similar but lamb fat is thrown away.

I don’t have beef very often, but when I next do I will definitely try this!

I keep even lamb fat😁 maked good base for frying veg a bit for lamb dishes.
Silicone ice cube forms are best thing since sliced bread.

greenacrylicpaint · 05/10/2022 19:23

my mum has a special ice cube tray.
pours in the fat and once frozen puts the blocks in a freezer bag.
she then uses a block for cooking instead of butter or oil.

Okay… I thought it was quite informative actually

AloysiusBear · 05/10/2022 19:44

Freeze in ice cube trays.

Chicken or lamb fat - use to fry onions when making curry using that meat
Pork fat - use for fry up or my husband has this really nice bean dish
Beef fat - use for roast potatoes

jetadore · 05/10/2022 19:48

The last bit is ‘eat with spoon’ surely?

silentpool · 05/10/2022 19:50

I also save for flavouring upcoming meals.

Anjo2011 · 05/10/2022 19:51

Tip it in a used can I.e baked beans/drinks can cover with foil and put in the bin!

magicstar1 · 05/10/2022 19:53

I roast the potatoes and parsnips in the fat, but the juices are always used in the gravy

RiverSkater · 05/10/2022 19:54

I wonder if bread and dripping will make a come back in a waste not way?

My mum used to keep excess fat in a bowl in the fridge and used it for frying.

I've just remembered she used to fry lamb chops and then heat the baked beans in the same pan in which the chops had been frying. It was delicious. 😁
