to be totally bemused that we had to sign a consent form for DS to taste haggis at nursery today..

Its just bizarre - its not like it was part of their main meal, just part of the Burns Night stuff they did today. Staff were about it too.
Ds (20 months) scoffed it down and then hoovered up anyone elses remnants that he could reach I regret to say. Weird child.

lots of salt in haggis

Twiglett · 25/01/2008 20:11

not to mention the sheep's lung, sheep's stomach, sheep heart, sheep liver

some people might be fussy

(not me .. I fed my 6 and 3 year olds snails last weekend )

Whizzz · 25/01/2008 20:12

Not unreasonable if your child was veggie or had an allergy to one of the ingredients. I think it's standard practice. We had a form asking if it was OK for DS to do a FRUIT tasting!

gingerninja · 25/01/2008 20:12

very odd, presumably they wouldn't have a disclaimer over a sausage?

scottishmummy · 25/01/2008 20:13

eh?do you all sign consent form for sausages?haggis is more nutritious than a sausage

Habbibu · 25/01/2008 20:15

Did you have to sign anything about their main meals? I do think that's odd... And surely if the child was veggie they just wouldn't have offered any (or had veggie haggis so that he didn't feel left out).

And harrumph, cmot - I LIKE haggis. And am not weird. Oh no. Not me.

scottishmummy · 25/01/2008 20:16

my wee un loves macsween haggis but did you know haggis is banned in the USA

scottishmummy · 25/01/2008 20:17

i'm veggie and eat macsween but wee one loves meat haggis

Habbibu · 25/01/2008 20:18

Why is that whisky in a jug?

cmotdibbler · 25/01/2008 20:31

Should have said that they provide all meals, so they know whether children are veggie/ have allergies etc.
Dh loves haggis too, but, alas its not gluten free, so I can't indulge

Miaou · 25/01/2008 20:34

Ahhh haggis - we had that for dinner tonight. I ate too much and now I have stomach ache

MsHighwater · 25/01/2008 21:51

Do you have to consent to them eating anything else? Sausages? Turkey twizzlers? Farmed fish?

Bizarre.

liath · 25/01/2008 22:25

I had to sign for ds to eat haggis today too. I was very bemused but in too much of a rush to ask why.

He loved it, apparently.

I had to fill in a form when DD1 started nursery saying what she would eat etc

She said they were given haggis today but it was disgusting.

They also had Irn-Bru as a treat and she said she didn't want any and had water instead (good parent moment)!

bigspender30 · 25/01/2008 22:40

Irn Bru-haha!!
My nephews call it "the bru" and talk about it in a mysterious fashion as its banned in their house. They asked me " have you ever tasted the bru"

1dilemma · 25/01/2008 22:45

PMSL consent form!!

mawbroon · 25/01/2008 23:05

Oh ffs that is just stupid.

2yo ds announced tonight "DS likes haggis, mmmm" He has had it before when we have been out and there has been nothing else safe on the menu for him (he's allergic to egg and intolerent to dairy)

Just a word of warning though, he did a poop in the night one time after eating haggis (nothing to do with the haggis, quite a common occurrence) but by the morning, his bum was really red and sore. I am guessing that spices burned his skin because normally he would be able to go until the morning without it bothering him.

Dixichik · 25/01/2008 23:09

don't some cultures have to have halal meat. perhaps it was to ensure that the nursery wasn't giving bloody haggis to a "halal meat" child.

I am such a pleb, I think I would like to be asked if I minded that my child was about to eat offal

handlemecarefully · 26/01/2008 00:05

I'd rather they had an innocent fruit smoothie

This tells you everything about the complaint culture in schools and nurserys.

Any money, they have done that activity before without consent forms and received parental complaints.
