To spend £30 on boob shaped bottle

It’s the tale as old as time, bottle refusing breastfed DC2. This new bottle called Teatle has popped up on my social media. Here’s the link www.theteatle.com

DH says he refuses to use it, but he’s not the one who can’t leave the house for longer than 3 hours for next year!

What do we think???

Seems fab!

To spend £30 on boob shaped bottle

Probably a waste of money. Babies know the difference no matter which fancy bottle you use.

Keep trying bottles, try a sippy-cup, try other people doing the feeds etc. but personally I wouldn’t spend that much on a bottle (no judgement though, I totally get the feeling of desperation).

Energypanic · 04/10/2022 23:15

£30 for freedom sounds like a bargain to me. If nothing else has worked it's worth a try at least.

SockQueen · 04/10/2022 23:16

I spent over £100 trying to get DS1 to take a bottle. Never came across that one but tried pretty much everything else on the market. NOTHING worked except time, I'm afraid.

panicattheikea · 04/10/2022 23:20

No baby is going to mistake that for a real breast!

GAW19 · 04/10/2022 23:21

The cheapest wide neck Asda bottle I could find was the only thing that worked for dd1 🙃
I tried all the bottles but nothing would work... until I spent around £1 on the Asda one...

Babymama2122 · 04/10/2022 23:22

I’ve just read that they are offering 21-day money back guarantee if not accepted. So thinking might order one…

Looks like a gimmick and £30 for one bottle is insane.
Imo it’s largely down to feeding technique when babies ‘bottle refuse’ and not the bottle.
If a bf from mum wasn’t available because the baby was in hospital or something happened to the mum they would not refuse a bottle to the point of starvation.

Babymama2122 · 04/10/2022 23:22

Will also try Asda bottle too

It's a lot more pert than either of mine so my baby would be v suspicious! Nanobebe do a boob-shaped one that's cheaper I think.

Poppins2016 · 04/10/2022 23:24

Honestly, seems like a well marketed gimmick...

Try NUK, I used the slow flow small teats for my bottle refusing baby and they worked. The teats are very flexible and also mimic the nipple shape when baby is latched on. They're much cheaper than the 'teatle'!

Hugasauras · 04/10/2022 23:24

Also DH just tried DD2 on a bottle of EBM for first time since she was about 2 weeks old (3.5 months now) and she took the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature one fine. But she also takes a dummy so maybe isn't as sensitive about non-nipples in her mouth!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 04/10/2022 23:26

I wouldn’t. The shape is similar to the Tommee Tippee which I used.

But why can’t you go out for the next year? If your baby is tiny and still feeding on demand then fair enough, but once you start weaning at six months you can drop down massively on the feeding as baby will be getting nutrients elsewhere. You can also try cups with spouts rather than bottles.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/10/2022 23:26

You would want to be stark staring mad to get that.

It's not the shape of the teat in a bottle that makes any difference! It's the warm human motherly nature of a breast vs bottle. Some babies really struggle. Two of my DC never had a bottle (went straight to a cup), and one had to have expressed breast milk in bottle occasionally as I had to go back to work p/t v soon after he was born. It was a battle to get him to take it.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 04/10/2022 23:29

nuk nature sense are great
or try the tiny 2 oz ready made bottles. The little tests they come with seem to please babies for some reason

CocoPocoLoco · 04/10/2022 23:41

Try MAM bottles. Mine has taken breast and bottle from birth. Not fussy about even swapping between them in one feed - so getting breast first then bottle straight after. They mimic the shape of the breast.

MoreRainbowsPlease · 04/10/2022 23:46

The only bottle I could get ds1 to take at 7 months was a very cheapy standard neck bottle (not the wide neck type). As a previous poster said I think that was mostly due to the teat rather than the bottle as I think it was more similar in size to my nipple that teats on wide neck bottles.

DS2 though was a fecking nightmare. Spent about £50 trying about 20 different types of bottles and teats. Never got him to take one. In the end at 11 months we managed to get him to drink out of a bog standard sippy cup (not one with the non spill spout).

Only get the expensive bottle if you can definately get your money back if they won't take it.

Babymama2122 · 07/10/2022 19:46

So…I ordered the bottle. DC took an ounce immediately, offered when wasn’t hungry. Planning to offer again during first night feed! Fingers crossed

The only thing that worked for my grandchild was for his mother to leave baby with me for the day so baby couldn't see her or smell her milk.
There were a fair few tears but that soon passed and baby drank 6oz in one go.
Mum was going into hospital the following week so they was no alternative

runningthroughthefield · 07/10/2022 20:06

I think it’s a mistake trying to replicate a breast. It’s easier to get a baby used to just accepting food from two totally different sources

mondaytosunday · 07/10/2022 20:32

Why a year? After six months wean your kid.
Don't think why that thing would work anyway.

Babymama2122 · 07/10/2022 20:33

@runningthroughthefield I agree to some extent, however personal circumstances and needs of other DC makes having the option of someone else feeding important to us, matter how short term that may be.
