To think all the best ideas have now been thought off?

Do you think all the technology ideas like FB, Twitter, Deliveroo, Dating Websites, Friends Reunited airbnb, and so on have all been taken now.
Does anyone wonder what the next big thing will be or has it all been thought of now?
What are we missing if anything?

Yes, and printer cartridges that last more than five minutes and don't cost the earth.

One word.

Can I ask - if they invented the tech that could freeze you now in time and defrost you at a later date - i.e. just as you are now but will be defrosted in say 200 years - how many of you would sign up for it?

But I don't think we're quite done innovating. I think one major issue will become privacy - the boundary between personal and digital is already wearing very thin.

I can see problems here.

You might be taken out of the freezer in the morning and popped on the worktop to thaw out and then along comes a cat and starts gnawing away at your extremities.

It happened once to some fish I was defrosting

I'm still waiting for someone to invent a cure for hang-overs!

Probiotics and vitamin b12

isittheholidaysyet · 05/10/2022 17:51

Tech that doesn't cost so much that's it a struggle to buy.

And all new tech to link with old tech so you don't lose everything when you up grade and have to start again!

From my experience of them in the office, they weren't much better. I used to sit next to a laser printer used by the whole floor and after a couple of months I might as well have changed my job title to 'printer repair technician'.😄

I love mine. I think doemstic ones last more than commercial. Maybe

mamabear715 · 05/10/2022 18:28

I HATE printers. In fact I've got a pic of an angry cat saying just that, stuck to the top of my printer. :-(

mamabear715 · 05/10/2022 18:29

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles fish being gnawed.. :-) :-)

I remember in lesson at school in about 2000 me and my friend designed something called mob tv where you could watch any tv channel or anything you wanted on your mobile phone 😂 we thought the idea was impossible . We were only 12 though haha

I remember when I was about 8 (early 1980s) thinking how marvellous it would be if there was a television channel that showed nothing but children's programmes!

SilverDragonfly1 · 05/10/2022 19:31

Something very obvious that needs official inventing- an insulated liner to put into existing shopping trolleys (rather than buying a new trolley that's insulated). I just checked amazon and they don't have anything like that, so I'm stuck with my Iceland cool bag stuffed into a trolley that's a completely different shape (think shoving a briefcase into a duffle bag). Most inventions are offshoots of current items rather than something entirely new.

The future advances in medicine alone are going to be insane!
And quantum computing will open a whole load of new possibilities.
We hardly know anything currently. There is so much more to learn.
The whole world will change once the recent technology which has been developed starts having an impact, the effects will cascade into everything.

AsAnyFuleKno · 05/10/2022 19:52

My thought is always that there might be things 'out there' we can harness that we have no idea of at the moment - something as revolutionary as electricity (but not necessarily power related).

BarbaraStan · 05/10/2022 19:55

A cover for the clothes line that automatically opens out when it starts to rain, thus protecting the washing.

Was planning my Dragon's Den pitch as I took in soggy washing in the pouring rain this afternoon 🙈

Not as easy as that though lol you've got to design it and make sure it works etc. Costs money. Good luck. Sounds a good idea.

We’ll invent an AI that’ll improve and reinvent itself.

verabarbleen · 05/10/2022 21:19

@AsAnyFuleKno it's mad isn't it? You really don't think that more can be thought of! But there always is

I am sure I saw that movie.

Joking aside there are self learning AI now

I will bet my joggers the next biggest thing will actually be something surprisingly simple and everyone will just think "omg how did no one think of that until now"

Whenever you think of someone like Mark Zuckerberg who came up with FB you think why didn't I think of that but you never did.
Helps I think if you have a good background in computers and what's needed.
Friends Reunited was great for them. They sold ot for loads of money and are living rich somewhere and you wouldn't know who they are. A simple idea started as a hobby from home. Lucky them.

It wasn't a hobby for longer, was it, I remember reading about the early days of friends reunited and there was a hell of a lot of work involved.

CrustyFlake · 05/10/2022 23:11

I think some people have probably always thought that we've reached our peak. They've always been wrong.

PureBlackVoid · 05/10/2022 23:13

I’d like to be able to walk into any supermarket or clothes store and have an app that tells me where an item is via a map, with real time updates to changes of store layout.

mondaytosunday · 05/10/2022 23:34

What is really like is tasterama - watching all these cooking shows that we can taste too!
Teletransportation.
Holographic remote teaching/working etc.
And what causes me a lot of grief is the engineering work/signal failures etc that stop the tube from running well - some technology to help with that please!

mondaytosunday · 05/10/2022 23:36

Solving climate crisis.
Oh and cures for cancer, diabetes, obesity, dementia, depression, fibromyalgia etc etc. We have a lot more to invent/discover.
