Surprise money on electric meter?

I came home from work today, my electric meter read 'payment top up successful'. I haven't topped up & I asked my dad who lives with me and he hasn't topped up. He couldn't be able to anyway as I have the card with me all the time.

My question is who put £64 on my electric meter....? Has anyone else had anything similar as was thinking it could be a government cost of living help thing.

Do I call my provider and ask?

Just Checked my meter, no money added

Its automatically added to smart meters. People with traditional prepayment meters will receive credit vouchers to top up at a paypoint.

Worth noting that this payment is not for low income householders - everyone is getting this £400 and further jel is being given for those on certain benefits

Just checked mine and I have indeed had money added to my electric meter, is this only for electric? Not gas?

Yes, they are doing it that was because everyone has electricity but not everyone has gas. If they had split it there would be mayhem.

Sorry for more questions... you may not even know the answers but you had been kind enough to help bevel. I may be having to move soon but I have no idea if or when. What happens to my balance then? If the new house doesn't have a prepayment meter already installed then what happens? Can I ask for one? Will my balance change over?

@pogostickplastique I don't know, I saw a really useful bit in BBC breakfast earlier in the week so this might be worth a look at.

When are the £400 energy rebate and other cost-of-living payments due? www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61592496

The problem is that all of the providers are doing different things and it also depends on your meter too.

If had been moving after topping up the meter yourself, would you expect the money back? Probably would answer your question.
