Should I send DS to nursery with a cough ?

My DS doesn't really get bad coughs. He usually gets fevers that knock him out and make him quite unwell, so I always keep him home when he's feeling like that.

He's got a nasty cough since yesterday and had a short fever the night before last. I kept him off yesterday.

He's completely happy and normal and no fever, just the fever the night before last ( for which I didn't give medicine, I just took some layers off him and it went down straight away ).

But the cough doesn't sound great. It's the type of cough that I hear all the time when I pick him up at nursery or when we go to softplay. All the kids seem to have it at the moment.

Sounds a bit wet, not dry.

If I send him in, will that make it worse ? I might be being OTT, but like I said, all the kids have this cough. So I think parents tend to send their kids in with it.

I just don't want him to run around and get sweaty and then go outside and then get more ill.

OTT or reasonable ?

He's two and a half.

My DS 4 is constantly coughing with a snotty nose! I kept him off for one day after he had a fever in the night then back in the next day. He was knackered when I picked him up but I can’t always stay home when he’s unwell as this current cough has gone on for two weeks!
If well in themselves i.e eating and drinking and no fever I would send in.

As for covid testing.. no way do I bother anymore! Firstly he hated it and secondly we need to stop at some point!

My daughter had a cough that lasted 7 months (from 1yr 9m to 2yr 5m). I only kept her off of temp or if unwell in herself

Yes I'd send in, if they're tired, temp or obviously unwell then I'd keep them off but a semi permanent cough and runny nose seems par for the course for under 5s in childcare settings!

If it's a new cough, I would keep home for a day at least to see how it develops but otherwise if well in themselves I'd send in with a cough otherwise they would never be there.

So selfish. All about your own child. What about the staff who dint get paid if they catch it and are off sick?a lot of nurseries don’t pay staff for sickness. Or the other kids who will catch it and their parents can’t work?
