Posting here because I'm not sure where else is suitable but MNHQ is welcome to move
Without wanting to give identifying detail I'm involved in a charitable organisation which has some land attached and lots of passersby.
I'm trying to think of a way of boosting revenue and thought about running a kind of Christmas market with crafts, carol singers and food over a couple of evenings this winter.
However I have no idea about how to organise such a thing. How would I find stallholders/how would it work financially? Is it too late in the day to do something like this? Ideally I'd like to get a mix of professional stallholders and stallholders involved with the charity.
Also would I need some kind of permission from the Council? The land is owned by the charity if that is helpful and is available at the time we'd need it.
So sorry to sound so clueless but I think this is a potentially great idea but really unsure how to start it! Would really appreciate some helpful advice from those who may have done something like this. There are people with greater financial acumen than me involved in the organisation who could probably run it but I just need to kick start it. This is voluntary and for a good cause BTW.

No personal experience, but I'd personally say that it's now far too late to sort out something like that for Christmas 2022.

I think it's not too late unless you are wanting to do it over weekend evenings in which case stall holders will already be committed elsewhere. First thing check out what licences you need from your local council and their timescales eg music/noise.

You'd need insurance.

I also think it’s far too late, planning for these sort of things start in the spring time. You also don’t want to do it poorly and ruin your chances for years to come. I’d wait until next year for this idea and do something much smaller this year.

Your existing public liability insurance will probably cover it and if it doesn't a quick call can right that. When we needed to inform ours we were doing a public facing event on a different premises there was no additional cost.

You need an excellent agile team, good comms and a strict adherence to key deadlines. As a PP said you can start small and build on it next year.

Public liability insurance, possibly planning for use of land. Parking. Any licences for what's being sold.

Think you need to speak to your council but you're probably cutting it fine for this Christmas. Could you plan one for Easter?
