The shop not accepting card payments AIBU

where I live is on a smallish housing estate and lots of residential properties near by and we have a convenience shop at the top of the road.

my gripe about this shop is that for gas and electricity top ups they do not/ will not accept card payments. I have previously had a fuel voucher and they would not accept it there stating that they didn’t have a scanner ( they did as I could see it) they say they will only accept cash for this, they have a cash machine in the shop which charges £2.99 to use and is always out of order so it’s useless anyway.

AIBU to be annoyed by this? Is there a legitimate reason why card payments cannot be accepted? Is it the shop keepers discretion? I’m trying to be reasonable about it but it seems unreasonable being the only shop close to all these residential properties and not offering card payment as it’s widely accepted now. They have a pay point machine which is what they have at another shop further away and they have no problem with scanning or taking card payments.

no hate please

It doesn't make the fact they are cash service a rubbish😂
They are still cash service for coop but coop (and some others) decided to take the hit on card payments then give cash to cashpoint.

I didn't say they are rubbish, the wording is a load of rubbish.

Basically they say they are a cash only service, unless the retailer decides to take card. So could be anything.

They are cash only service for the retailer. Poster upthread explained how it works. Coop just takes card payment, swallows the fee, then gives cashpoint cash

Exactly. Cash only, at retailers discretion.

I'm so glad I can top up online, so no more Paypoint for me. 😂

That's not true. I work in spar and they accept card payments for paypoint services
