Help me get rid of my hair chin

AmInormallk · 02/10/2022 12:05

Im 47 now and for the last couple of years, I have noticed I have begun sprouting a lovely hairy chin

Well it is NOT lovely, i hate it

I have tried:-
plucking,
shaving (only in emergencies)
ILP Therapy (at home with an expensive machine)

The plucking and shaving only last temporary and I have never noticed a reduction in hair growth with the ILP

Any ideas at all how i can reduce or get rid of this, without having to pluck every two days

Braun facial epilator- I am marvellous hairy’ about the face and this is a Godsend ☘️👍🏿 Look on EBay

Unless you're able to paper for proper laser removal, I'd suggest regular threading at a local beauty salon.

It's gentler than waxing, quick and will get all hairs. Appointments should be around 10-14 pounds.

Also might be good to have a chat with gp and see if there's a hormonal imbalance to blame?

AmInormallk · 02/10/2022 12:17

Thank you, it may well be hormonal, I am likely perimenopausal

cos I have had a hysterectomy I dont have the obvious signs of heading towards menopause but it is highly likely, my sister started it at my age

I would advise you to see your doctor as it sounds like a hormone imbalance or PCOS.
It’s probably not as noticeable as you think ❤️

Cosmos123 · 02/10/2022 12:18

Electrolysis worked.
Did take few sessions but smooth hairless chin forever.

Octomore · 02/10/2022 12:19

Epilating is the easiest, I find

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/10/2022 12:20

Laser is best I find

that should get it to fine and fair, and then have electrolysis to finish it off. Or if it’s just a few then maybe electrolysis from the off.

Not much point using temp methods.

addler · 02/10/2022 12:21

Are you using the IPL correctly? I didn't realise that I couldn't pluck or thread the hair after I used the machine, instead of just before. So I would shave, use the Lumea, then pluck until it was time to use it again and wondered why it wouldn't work (until I read the instructions properly Blush)

Also if your hair is fair or red it won't work very well. It's worked great now on the brown and black hairs on my chin but it doesn't do much to the gingery ones

The OP is 47. It’s peri/menopause. It’s totally normal.

Cosmos123 · 02/10/2022 12:24

It was permanent and I was fed up of plucking and looking for hair.

So I choose electrolysis

JanetandJohn500 · 02/10/2022 12:29

UK Laser Clinics currently have a 50% off offer on. I'm hairy of chin and upper lip, I've tried plucking shaving and home IPL and it wasn't enough. I'm hoping this works. It's £125 for 10 sessions.

PurpleWisteria1 · 02/10/2022 12:34

I am younger than you but have always had a hairy chin.
what is the doctor going to do? I probably do have PCOS but I have had all my children I want to have and am a healthy weight so what’s the point? The doctor certainly isn’t going to care about a hairy chin?
I pluck most days. Spend 5 mins per day plucking and that about covers it.

JennyJustJumps · 02/10/2022 12:38

I use this and it works very well for me, I've noticed in reviews some people say it doesn't remove any hair. It does and it's initially painful but gets better over time. There is a knack to it, you twist the side bits while rolling it, but it's quick and handy.

Laser hair removal, but you'll need to do this before the hair turns white

zingally · 02/10/2022 12:58

I found my first chin hair at 18 on the day of my cousins wedding! Why I remember that so clearly I have no idea!

20 years later I now have 5 hairs, 4 in a little clump and 1 off to the side. I just run a razor over them every other day.

My older sister had a much more serious issue with chin hair and long sideburns, so got electrolysis in her early 20s, and has never had any re-growth.

edenhills · 02/10/2022 12:58

I've been looking at buying a home electrolysis kit, anyone had any luck with these?

mamabear715 · 02/10/2022 13:01

@JennyJustJumps That is the work of the DEVIL.
I can stand pain, no problem, but that thing? You are obviously made of sterner stuff than I, & I salute you. #Kneels.

lap90 · 02/10/2022 13:03

You're lucky you've only just started getting them! I'm early 30s and have had them popping up for a while. I just pluck every weekend or so.

RedRum27 · 02/10/2022 13:09

I’m late 20s and regular chin hair appeared a couple of years ago. Lost weight to see if it helped and sadly it didn’t. Don’t think it’s PCOS as hair hasn’t grown elsewhere at the same rate.

I shave in an absolute emergency, always keep a tweezer on me just in case but get in threaded once every 2 weeks for between £3 and £5. Paying more than that for chin threading alone is daylight robbery I think, based on the suggested price of £10-£14!

Angelinflipflops · 02/10/2022 13:25

I think laser only works on dark hair

Oblomov22 · 02/10/2022 14:02

Shaving and plucking encourage the hair to grow even more, you must know that?
I still have electrolysis.

This is an old wives tale…. Shaving does not encourage more growth and plucking will result in finer hair and eventually non-growth. Just ask anyone of a certain age that plucked their eyebrows long enough when that was the thing to do.

hair is going to hair unless you go with a more permanent solution such as electrolysis and that is not going to work if the hairs have already gone white.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 02/10/2022 14:34

God yes!!

I have hairs sprouting from my chin, upper lip, on my waddle from my nipples!!! But will my eyebrows ever grow back!!! Will they shite.

I think someone on here called it the over-plucking scandal of the 90's 🤣

@motherofcatsandbears

I have read it. There is no point the OP a going to see her doctor unless she has other symptoms. It’s a waste of her time and her GPs.

Everyone over 45 is peri-menopausal, and chin hair is totally normal. The fact the OP has had a hysterectomy doesn’t made a difference - she still has her ovaries. She could be either peri-m or menopausal.

The only thing she needs to do about chin hair is go for laser or electrolysis to get rid of it.
