Live singer in neighbour’s garden

Feels like it’s in the house with us - a live vocal and guitar 20 feet away.. Who does that? Is it a thing?
AIBU to be really annoyed at how intrusive it is. I’d have been fine if they’d put a note through the door letting us know about it in advance.

It's the weekend and they have until 11 before they have to keep the noise down.

That's not true at all. There is no time frame for antisocial behaviour. You can call the noise team anytime there is someone on duty day or evening. Check council website for hours.

grafittiartist · 01/10/2022 21:31

We have this - once a year the neighbours at the back have a concert. Quite enjoy it really!

Lunificent · 01/10/2022 21:32

He’s shouting Babylon and urging them all to join in.

Does complaining to the council count as a dispute with neighbours?

It is really loud. The neighbours on the group chat are all complaining.

This is why I want to live in the depths of the countryside! I just need to win the lottery!

You might be disappointed. My neighbours are far enough away you couldn’t hear a scream from inside. Nevertheless a previous couple had a karaoke machine they occasionally dragged out that could be heard. After a few drinks the husband fancied himself as the next Eminem. It was quite amusing to listen to a fat white middle aged, middle manager with his daily delusions of grandeur rapping badly about the hood and his home boys.
Once a female guest was so awful with her high pitch screeching and yowling we were debating whether we could go round and honestly say she was frightening the horses with a straight face, but a few local cats, including ours managed to get the point across by wailing back at her.

Ladybyrd · 01/10/2022 21:47

I remember my neighbour singing Come On Irene in the garden at 1am on New Years Day. He was also our landlord.

It's annoying, but if it's a one off, I wouldn't kick up a fuss.

Ladybyrd · 01/10/2022 21:48

*Eileen, even!

LikeTearsInRain · 01/10/2022 21:48

Go out and do your own karaoke. Stick on come Eileen or something

Wonnle · 01/10/2022 21:53

If the fuse board is in the front side cupboard turn the power off !

TheRubyRedshoes · 01/10/2022 21:56

Sorry, is this every night?

Or a one off occasion?

It's hard to have sympathy when the house nextdoor to me became an unofficial hmo and suddenly it was like living next to a pub every.single. night.

Sparklingbrook · 01/10/2022 21:56

I'd quite like that, as a one off.

mondaytosunday · 01/10/2022 22:03

Sounds lovely (unless electric guitar and heavy metal screaming).

Somethingneedstochange · 01/10/2022 22:14

My next door neighbours did this a few years ago. Got family around and had a party karaoke etc. It was coming up to Christmas and they were out in the garden etc. I was a bit annoyed as my daughter's health is affected by lack of sleep. But then I found out my neighbours husband had terminal cancer. He had asked for a Christmas party with all his family before he got too ill.

Somethingneedstochange · 01/10/2022 22:15

Just to add all was quiet by 11.

Diyextension · 01/10/2022 22:18

Couple months ago , one of our neighbours had a party, they had a saxophonist playing all the classics ( Baker Street , careless whisper). I just had the telly off , French doors open loving it ……. It was brilliant If they’ve have had volbeat playing I’d have been round moshing 🤘🏼👹

It's just different noises, I don't know wtaf the tawny owls were up to the other night, but it sounded as if one was screaming on the windowsill and the others were laughing at it. We can sometimes hear the sea roar (3 miles away) which strangely freaks me out, as I'm sure it's far more quiet on the beach.

Whatthechicken · 01/10/2022 22:25

We had a band in our garden a few weeks ago, but we have very few neighbours and invited our neighbours/gave them a heads up. We also wrapped the band up by 9:30 - kept a quieter party going a bit later though. I don’t think it takes much to warn/invite your neighbours, and as long as it doesn’t happen all the time - I think most people are pretty accommodating.

My niece plays the bagpipes.

Can I borrow her? My neighbour plays the drums Grin

Echobelly · 01/10/2022 22:29

I'd probably let neighbours know about something like this, if only to let them know what time it's going to end so they don't have to be complaining on whatsapp about it!

Between the deer (surprisingly noisy Google it!) the sheep and the owls it's really not that peaceful tbh

Hyppyb · 01/10/2022 22:44

I agree that must be annoying and it would be lovely if a note had been dropped, but if this is a one off and not happening between 11pm to 8am they aren't doing anything really unreasonable.

Believe me sound seems to travel further when there's no back ground noise around.

Scout2016 · 01/10/2022 22:45

Are they a contestant on Come Dine With Me? Happens a lot on there.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 01/10/2022 22:45

Rural ain’t quiet I can tell you. I think the deer are either fighting or having noisy bloody sex here or is it a combination of both.

the owls sound like they are screaming at each other and not woot woot

sheep season is well interesting too
