Concerned that Truss and KK are prepared to hurt their own people…

’Their own people’ means the British public, not their privileged circle of people who are disproportionately benefiting from their policies.

Truss talks a lot about how awful Putin is. Just because Putin is bad doesn’t mean Truss is good. Truss has lost the moral high ground to claim to be a paragon of virtue.

How is it justifiable to help the richest during a cost of living crisis for the rest of the public? How are tax cuts for the most well-off justifiable when it means sacrifices to public services?

When Truss said she was prepared to be unpopular I didn’t think she meant she was prepared to hurt her own people… I’m now concerned that’s exactly what she meant. It’s evil (and I don’t use that description lightly).

"Prepared to" suggests they haven't already.

Their policies haven’t really kicked in properly yet, have they?

They’re preparing to do worse apparently.

Is there really nothing we can do?!!

Yabu to think anyone other than the privileged elite in their circle is "their own people"

Yabu to think they haven't already hurt people.

Yanbu on your overall summary.

Well the problem is that they need to start realising who is who. “Their own people” actually means the public.

Not at all. They only owe something to the people who have paid to own them.

MintJulia · 01/10/2022 12:13

I don't think they have the ability or imagination to understand the damage they are doing. They are both too supremely arrogant.

I'm hoping they are ripped to pieces at the Tory party conference next week. Or that Tory back benchers simply refuse to vote the measures through.

We have a parliamentary democracy. Truss and Kwarteng don't have absolute say. It's down to the MPs who presumably would like to keep their jobs. And the electorate is watching closely !

Ripping the plaster off always hurts

EstellaRijnveld · 01/10/2022 12:17

That's where you're wrong, they don't see the average British public as their own people that's why they are prepared to wreak damage.

Plus Kwasi Karteng is the economic version of Dominic Cummings so prepare for more to come. They're both supremely arrogant and don't care if their ideological experiments cause damage. As long as it doesn't affect them or their pals, they don't give a shit about the rest of us.

You’ve assumed there is a plaster…

If there is a plaster, then you’re also not supposed to rip it off if the plaster is still needed. Rip off the plaster too early and you’ll rip skin off with it too and create more problems than there were before.

Thank you for the hope!

I was starting to compare Truss to Putin. That’s how badly I’ve become concerned about her lack of concern for the people…

I hope the same. And that their charter city plans get thrown in the bin.

purplethings · 01/10/2022 12:39

It's libertarianism and it's what people voted for. The writing has been on the wall since before Brexit. They are just maximizing the disaster capitalism now. Theyknow they'll be out soon so they need to sell off, cash in and stop any laws that hinder the money making machine as soon as possible.

Questionaboutjoboffer · 01/10/2022 12:41

The fact that they are talking about more welfare cuts after years of austerity shows how clueless they are.

To fund debt they have wilfully caused.

Their tax cuts have nothing to do with their wanting growth.

They need to go. They are laughable / or it would be laughable if they weren’t so damaging.

Truss saying that she isn’t going to comment about people’s personal finances when asked how she felt about the fact that the mini budget has meant a massive hike to come to people’s mortgages was an abhorrent thing to hear.

We deserve much better than this.

eveoha · 01/10/2022 12:59

Affectionless psychopaths both of them - causing untold physical and psychological damage 😡

Exactly!!

It’s ideology and self-serving.

And… “Mathematics confirms rich people aren’t smart—they’re lucky

Being a high earner is more often down to luck and who you know.

Maybe it’s a gift that the Conservative party conference is coming up so soon after this shitshow that Truss and KK have caused. Sunak’s absence is a strong statement…

Imo it was inevitable, if the last leader was turfed out we’d shift to the right

Boris said he’d end the austerity period.

Truss has reversed Boris’ pledge.

Putin says Truss victory in Tory leadership vote ‘far from democratic’: Russian president alludes to fact prime minister was chosen by party members, not by whole country.

Says a lot when Putin is claiming to take a higher democratic ground than Liz Truss. Thats pretty bad.

You are being naive to assume that we are their people. People keep on voting the party that isn't funding education, the NHS and policing so it's not surprise that Truss would be a more extreme version of Johnson and go further.

Our only hope is for MPs to vote down her budgets but I'm not holding out hope that they will do the right thing.

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2022 14:05

Johnson was part of the rot. He endlessly manoeuvred against Cameron and then May. Johnson purged the party of the centre right Tories and One Nationers because they wouldn't back a no deal Brexit and brought in to Cabinet much of ERG.
He as good as handed the keys to Truss.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/10/2022 14:09

YABU to think either of them consider the average man/woman on the street to be “their people”.

I’m surprised that you only just seem to have realised what their intentions are, tbh.
what did you expect 🤷‍♀️

I’m sorry, but I’m finding it hard to understand why you think this is something specific to Liz Truss? This is what Tories do - it is their brand of politics!

Do you not remember when they tried to cut Tax credits alongside a plan to cut taxes for the richest? Which is why it was voted against by the House of Lords.

If you don’t like what they do, stop voting for them!

Anon778833 · 01/10/2022 14:13

Of course the Conservatives are self serving. If more people realised this before they destroyed everything good about the UK then maybe we wouldn’t be in this shit situation now.
