To ask how to tell I’m quitting

And how do I let go emotionally from this team that I built from scratch. 15 years ago a US company headhunted me to lead and hire a new UK PR team for them in a satellite office in the UK, before this UK PR was handled by the team in the US. Over the past few years head office have ran me and the team I lead into the ground thorough micro management and in lots of other ways. I finally want to quit but don’t know how to tell head office and my team and I don’t think I can let go emotionally, it’s a team that I hired and lead from scratch

You just tell them. At some point you have to put yourself first and part of that is letting go to have space for something better for you.

It is a rip the plaster off thing. Don’t draw it out unnecessarily - they’ll probably be able to tell anyway just by the way you act something has changed. Phone your line manager and then Email your resignation to HR and then tell your team face to face. As with any change, make allowances for them to go through the change curve and offer to support them and help prepare them for the transition. You may find that others follow in your footsteps in leaving and haven’t done so far as they haven’t wanted to let you down! Be proud of what you’ve achieved but it sounds like you know that staying is no longer an option so you’re going to have to let go.

Just send them a letter of resignation and don't be drawn into discussions. Grey rock with "it's time for me to move on to new opportunities".

Remember it's a job and they will replace you in an instant if they need to - not fair I know but I've never heard of a company being "emotionally attached" to a member of staff. Time to think of yourself and your own needs, good luck in your next venture
