So I’m going to caveat this with the fact that I wouldn’t usually go out of my way to report someone to the police, as you could destroy somebody’s life, and also karma, I do very much believe what goes around comes around yada yada.
BUT
Just logged on to Facebook and seen somebody I went to school with has uploaded a video to their story as I was flicking through them. They are selling their car, but instead of using pictures they have uploaded a video with text over it detailing registration and price.
Video is visibly being recorded from the drivers seat as the car is being driven around and she’s manouvering corners and junctions. She’s got the phone in one hand and the other hand on the wheel.
Aibu to report this before a child gets knocked down. She doesn’t have children which isn’t really relevant but you’re behind a wheel. Or do I just let lie?

I would report. Its so dangerous

SavoirFlair · 30/09/2022 10:34

I would report this. It’s disgracefully unnecessary - she’s SELLING a car not filming a Top Gear segment on closed roads

I don’t care how creative they think they are or want to be, they’re endangering children and people, and deserve the six points

YANBU

Yeah, I probably would. And to Facebook as well (as she's posting stuff showing illegal behaviour).

Runningintolife · 30/09/2022 10:39

I do think it's dangerous but I don't think I would report it. I think there's systems in place to catch or record dangerous driving and discourage it and that expecting police to act on a social media post where establishing identity and evidence will be burdensome is not the best use of resources. I might report it to the platform she is posting on or site she is selling on. But in all honesty I probably wouldn't.

I get why you would and I don't think YABU but I wouldn't contact the police myself if it was me.

Which of these “systems” is going to pick up that drivers actions @Runningintolife ? Please answer, genuine question.

and that expecting police to act on a social media post where establishing identity and evidence will be burdensome is not the best use of resources.

The person will have listed their name and contact number as they are selling an item. Their registration number is in the video and visible. How hard is it for the police to establish identity??

I might report it to the platform she is posting on or site she is selling on.

What action do you expect the platform or site to take? What does that do?

But in all honesty I probably wouldn't.

yeah; we get that…

Can you report it via that thing where you can send dashcam footage to the police? Can't remember what it's called.

I think that's what I would do.
