Failure to stop

outtheshowernow · 29/09/2022 21:26

Tonight a woman has driven into the side of my car whilst I was driving along She was pulling out of a turning and nudged forward too far. It was a loud bang so I pulled in and expected her to follow behind me but she drove away. I managed to catch up with her and luckily stopped and some lights where I got out and told her she's hit me and to pull over. Now the thing is she has caused quite a bit of damage to my car and there is no way she didn't realise she had hit me. She also has a fair bit of damage to the front of hers. Im so annoyed that she tried to drive away that I am considering reporting her for failure to stop. She told me her job and I think this could be damaging to her to have on her record. What would you do report or leave it please

Report - to police and insurance company. Without a doubt.

Gingernaut · 29/09/2022 21:29

Report

She's a menace

Danikm151 · 29/09/2022 21:29

Report. She broke the law. What if you were injured?
also you will need it for your insurance too

Jojobees · 29/09/2022 21:29

Absolutely report to both your insurance company and 101.
Why on Earth did she tell you her profession?

Chesure · 29/09/2022 21:32

Report. If she's tried to get away with it once don't trust her again.

I think she panicked when I caught up with her and told me everything trying to act important I spose. Fair enough it was an accident but driving away to leave me with the cost is not fair

Report.
Why wouldn't you ?
I hope you got some photos.

REPORT, REPORT, REPORT.

LuckyLil · 29/09/2022 21:52

I wouldn't care any more about her job then she cared if you could have been injured or had a baby in the car. Report the arse off her. It is illegal to make off from the scene of an accident and you absolutely need to report her. What happens next time when she runs someone over?

Technophobic · 29/09/2022 21:53

Report it.

What if you hadn't caught up with her though? Do you think she would have cared about you? She could have seriously injured you and she did a runner without making sure you were ok. Let her have it!

CrustyFlake · 29/09/2022 21:54

Report. What she's done is very serious. How does she know that you weren't injured?

orchiopera · 29/09/2022 21:57

Report. This is a hit and run OP. So what if it's damaging to her career. She's shouldn't have crashed into you in that case. Always report.

outtheshowernow · 29/09/2022 22:27

Ok thanks for the replies. No body has said don't report her so I'm going to do it. She could do it again and really hurt somebody and she should have known better than to try and get away without swapping details. She also had the cheek of asking me not to go through the insurance and sort it out privately!

I wonder if she is insured?

Always report and always let the insurance company know so they can deal with it for you.

NurseInTraining · 29/09/2022 22:37

Definitely report her - she committed a crime by trying to leave the scene of an accident. I drove into someone (not enough to cause any damage) once years ago and the victim drove away without stopping and I reported MYSELF to the police because I felt so bad. If she caused damage then you will need a crime number for your insurance company - you shouldn't suffer because of her error. Call 101 tonight.

jetadore · 29/09/2022 22:58

Report it. I got reported for failing to stop once and got a letter from police. I replied to it, giving my details, and it got sorted through insurance and I never heard anything else about it from the police. Think they don’t have the time to follow it up really.

yoyo1234 · 29/09/2022 23:03

Report it.

whatdoidonowffs · 29/09/2022 23:10

I hate this new trend (certainly in London ) of just pulling out of a side road and expecting people to stop for you
soo tempting to hit them
go through insurance they haven’t a leg to stand on your right of way
