For refusing to drink from mucky vile mugs?

Just started a new job. I was shown the kitchen and put my lunch in the fridge. I was going to make a coffee but saw the start of the mugs and almost threw up. Absolutely vile. Luckily I’d taken a bottle of water.

Anyway 10 minutes later someone stands up and declares a tea-round. I politely declined. I was asked “do you not drink coffee?” So I said I was cutting down. I then got hassled to have a coffee. I continued to decline. I got told not to be so polite and everyone needs a coffee before the day starts. I said I didn’t want one.

an hour or so later someone else comes in with a tray of coffee, one was plonked on my desk. I said “ no I’m ok thank you” The sight of these mugs was making me want to shower the room in vomit. I couldn’t stand it near me and pushed it out the way. Obviously my face said more than my mouth did as the coffee maker asked what was wrong with it.

AIBu to refuse to drink from these filthy vile mugs??? If I take my own mug in tomorrow it will be obvious what is up.

@SudocremOnEverything filthy mugs is definitely the least of our problems Grin

This is a creative writing exercise written by someone fishing for imaginary internet points, isn't it? I mean, the hyperbole is on par with some of the yr 5 papers I was marking earlier, after they'd been reminded to 'use more adjectives.' Shower the room in vomit, indeed.

I remember when someone helpfully washed and scrubbed all the mugs at my work and one of my colleagues was distraught as he had been cultivating the taste of his mug for months Grin

I'm waiting for the next thread from OP, the one where she complains her new colleagues don't like her and don't include her in anything Smile

People bleach crockery?! Bleach???
This place never fails to astonish me. Are the mug bleachers the same as the bathroom bin deniers who think it's perfectly normal to ask a menstruating guest to carry a tampon out to the outside bin to dispose of 🤔

Your workmates sound really friendly and you sound over the top. How bad can a mug be that you want to ‘shower a room in vomit’ yet no-one else feels the same. I’m sure they’ve been washed and tea stain or two never killed anyone.

are you mrs Hinch?

My work cup is bamboo, and gets all strained, even though it’s washed every day - but a denture tablet in it every few weeks really cleans ut up. Maybe take a tube in, and soak them all?

Scurryfunge12 · 01/10/2022 01:21

You’re really over the top. I highly doubt they were so bad that you wanted to cover the room in vomit 🤨 as others have said, given that other people were happy to drink from them they can’t be anywhere near as bad as you’re making out. They were probably just tea stained.

You sound like hard work and a bit snobby. Just wash one to your standards next time or take your own.

Some people don't have caffeine for health reasons, Mormons don't for religious reasons.

If this is genuine, then this could be considered harassment.

Op posts then disappears. I always suspect these OTT posts are a windup.

They can look horrible even if it is 'only tannin'. I don't drink tea so when offered it at another branch, I asked for water instead, it was brought in a horribly stained old mug. I am not usually squeamish, but I just couldn't drink it.
