Promotion vs More money now?

Hi Everyone

In a strange situation of being offered a promotion to senior management level with permanent contact offering around £56k, but currently locuming at lower level and possibly taking home around £70k

Whilst excited about new role and promotion which could offer better future earnings the new role has a 1.5hr commute whereby current role has a 1hr commute so less travelling at the moment

In light of cost of living crisis locum money is soooo appealing as I am sole breadwinner and have 2 children to care for

I am less concerned about pension that permanent contract would offer as need money now, however I am pretty comfortable mainly WFH, in a role I feel comfortable doing though doesn't stretch me.

I know if I took new role I would be so proud of myself for achieving so much however also feeling a bit of imposter syndrome which makes the choice feel so difficult at present, so what would you do?

How much of your current role is work from home and the 1 hour commute?

What are you currently paying for childcare? Will the longer commute add much more to it?

Currently only go in once every 5 weeks for a full week, commute is 1hr currently. No childcare costs as children school age and husband mainly WFH so around after school

Given the new changes with IR 35 I would be staying as a contractor personally I’m assuming the Locum work because along similar tax lines.
There’s absolutely no way I would take a permanent job right now PAYE is just getting shafted

I know what you mean... job change would be the difference of Team manager to service manager though Blush, would that make a difference to you?

It's crazy that I am better off financially as a locum team manager than permanent service manager!

Every time I have gone from consultant to Manager it has resulted in an overall loss of earnings. I know so many people who refused management roles and are happily earning £250,000 a year very happily in their little bubble with lone wolf status, as soon as you have to start dealing with other people shit it takes your focus away from doing your job and rewarding yourself accordingly.

Totally understand what you mean....
it's only due to locuming that I have achieved many of my personal goals!

I'd stay as you are and keep looking for a senior role that pays better.

I don't know what line of work you're i! But a 14k drop now is too risky given current economic climate. The job title and more response for less pay wouldn't be a priority for now against paying the bills etc.

And imposter syndrome doesn't exist. It's a constructed mechanism to hold you down.
