That the knobs in government have really done a number on us and our panic levels - mortgage related

Our mortgage is up in November and in August we got a new deal with our current bank at a very respectable 2.4% for 10 years. We've been chasing the paperwork since august but it's stuck in a queue, people before you, lots of people changing. Our circs have changed since the original mortgage due to a child with autism coming in to our lives so are limited in options.

We got an email saying 'we can no longer proceed with your application, you must call us to discuss' 😩

2.5hrs on hold to get through and in that time we're obviously thinking the mortgage has been pulled, SVR is now unaffordable, if we're lucky we'll get an unaffordable fixed rate, we'll have to sell the house, where will go, who can we live with, what about the SEN school etc..

They just wanted to confirm my date of birth to issue the paperwork. The 2.5hr queue is because everyone is scrabbling around for mortgage support.

I'm so angry at what they are doing to us all.

Its horrible just a complete nightmare for so many of us 😔 Could you perhaps extend the term to bring the payments down? Its very worrying.

Yes no mortgage but its frightening. I just want her to do a u turn. That's good you got your 10 year fix though, well done.

Sorry, don't think I was clear. The original mortgage offer is absolutely fine - it's a great offer at 2.4% and we can afford it. The panic was thinking it had been pulled, catastrophising and having to wait on hold for hours just to find out that isn't the case at all. The panic comes from the way the economy is going I guess.

Yep, the plan is obviously to keep the fear levels high. Be rational though, if you are in this situation, so are a few million others. What are they going to do? Evict a few million people?

Unplug from it all.

That can’t have done your blood pressure any good at all, but actually you’ve been lucky. I agree with you it is terrifying.

We were incredibly lucky. We both said the same about blood pressure. A few months ago I would have assumed it was paperwork related but now....straight to homelessness (which I do recognise is panic overload!)

I stopped watching any news in the midst of the fear mongering covid updates. Guess what I still find out when something major happens. The Internet has just become an ever repeating echo chamber. I would Unplug, but not entirely sure what I would do with the time, sad really.

That's very true. Everything is very toxic at the moment - unplugging is very sensible advice!
