Is boiler safe to use until fixed?

Posting for traffic sorry!

I rent a house owned by a family member and the boiler has been acting up the last couple of weeks, losing pressure daily etc. We thought it might have been a leaky radiator but the engineer has been around today and said it's the expansion vessel at fault. He suggested one of those red tanks being fitted instead (sorry no idea what their called) otherwise he'd have to take the entire boiler off the wall. He'll probably be back either over the weekend or on Tuesday as I'll be working from home then. My only worry is if it's save to use until then. It's my own fault for not asking him but I was in the middle of work when he turned up, although he didn't say not to use it (bit difficult as I don't have an electric shower and obviously it's colder now as well). I don't have his number so family member is going to ring him straight after work to ask, but does anyone know if it will be ok for now or is it too dangerous? I thought if that was case he'd try and come back asap rather than wait until next week.

If it wasn't safe he would have issued a Warning Notice and depending on the severity, isolated the appliance.
