driving tests

DS failed his third driving test today. Combination of nerves and dyspraxia. He drives fine but as soon he gets in there, goes to pieces.
Anyone like to hazard a guess when the first date is available for another test in Glasgow?
Am I being unreasonable?

It'll be March or April. I have the testi app to try and get a cancellation for my kid.
It's a shit situation for him op - round our way very last minute cancellations seem to be cropping up which wouldn't work for us but hopefully would for you?
ThrowingSomeCrumbs · 29/09/2022 13:32
Can you apply for cancellations still? When I passed my test there was around a 6 month wait for tests (many years ago!), so when I failed I applied for a cancellation and got one 5 weeks after my previous test (you also had to wait a month after a fail in those days)

6 March.
Which Google tells me is 158 days, or 22 and a half weeks.
We do have the testi app and DS, DH and I are all logged into the same account on our phones so we can swoop in for a canx. It's just shit though. My youngest has also just turned 17 so we will be going through it all again with them in a few months.

It is shit. Fingers crossed for a cancellation for him. And hopefully they'll have made better in roads on the backlog by the time its your youngest's turn.

It’s a self-perpetuating doom spiral at the moment with driving tests. Because the wait to get one is so long, that puts even more pressure into an already pressurised situation, as the consequence of failing is so much more than if you could take it again in a couple of weeks.
The greater pressure means more people make more mistakes, and fail more tests. So more retakes. So a longer wait. Rinse and repeat. I feel very sorry for anyone learning to drive at the mo. Must be horrendous.

I booked DD's test and didn't tell when it was until her instructor was on her way to collect her. She asked me to do it for her as she knew her nerves would get the better of her if she knew when her test was. It worked a treat for her, she passed first time with two minors.

Mine has failed the theory test four times and is taking a break. Two marks off each time in the hazard perception. I'm happy my swot of a daughter who is 17 has no interest in learning right now as it would be too much for him if she passed before he did.
WheatShreds · 29/09/2022 14:57
We were using Testi...it's rubbish as you have to book yourself when it shows a cancellation and we were always too late. Other apps book for you so no need to swoop. DS gets plenty of tests now which is good since he keeps failing.

I hear you. It's hard, isn't it. He turned 17 in March 2020, a week before the world went mental. Disrupted learning all that year, failed his first written test in June 2021 and it took us forever to get another slot, Scotland at the time was still enforcing 2 metre social distancing and sanitising everything so the capacity in the test centre was about 5% of what it should be, lots of his friends were travelling as far as London or Bristol to get a test slot. passed the theory second time and it's been the same again trying to get a practical slot.
He's not NT and has a diagnosis of dyspraxia and is a nervous soul anyway. He is very very academic and failing like this is just not in his vocabulary, he's taking it very hard.

I wonder if he should have a break?
His cohort have had such a shit time

I have the driving test now app, it auto books so no need for swooping in, just waiting for a 3rd for DS who is much like yours bless him. I’ve noticed a pattern of times coming through that seems to show they keep some in reserve and drip out 2-3 weeks before hand
I expect one to auto book shortly as I’ve got dates blocked out due to his instructor going on holiday and have passed 3 already because of it
TheBoxOfWhat · 29/09/2022 21:14
Ds has just passed his test. He was originally booked for early January, using the premium £10 on the Testi app as recommended by his instructor and he managed to get a December test, booked that and then a mid-September test came up so he grabbed that one.
KassandraOfSparta · 30/09/2022 07:45
Got up this morning to a raft of pings on the Testi app and have managed to book a cancellation for 3 November. Great.
Now to persuade him that Kalms are actually quite a good idea and won't do any harm, rather than hard drugs which will lead him into a life of addiction.

That’s great news, we’ve used CBD oil which has helped, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve used it for pain relief for some time. Sadly DS is starting meds as his anxiety is just part of his profile like his dad and sister
Ive had 2 pass through 10th and 12th Oct that we couldn’t use as instructor is on holiday
