A few hours in London?

I know this isn't an AIBU - I'll report and get it moved over to a more suitable topic. Mumsnet app is temperamental and it only lets me pick certain topics on the drop down menu, lest it crashes my entire app.

I get in to St Pancras on a Monday at 2pm and don't have a train home until 7pm. If you had 5 hours in London with your partner (with a suitcase each) what would you do?

I looked at afternoon tea (after reading another thread) but my partner has a nut allergy and find a lot of places struggle to cater to that when scones and cakes are involved, understandably.

You’ll be right next to Coal Drops Yard at Kings Cross, which has loads of places to eat, a cinema and a canal walk towards Camden (amongst other things) if the weather is ok. If you want to stay close to the station, the Wellcome Collection is a short walk (opposite Euston) and very interesting!

Dump the luggage first?

And then head off to a gallery or two, depending on which exhibitions are on.

I do see the difficulty when you’ll be too late for a matinee and too early for any evening performance - but there’s still plenty of entertainment to be had.

Thank you, I did look at the luggage drop but the link says St Pancras is closed while Kings Cross is open.

Will check out the suggestions, it'll be end of November so potentially cold!

Thank you! Not necessarily fussed to stay close by but of course don't want to be lugging suitcases around and any travel time eats into potential tourist time too.

I'll check out Coal Drops Yard!

Ah, I don’t know the current left luggage situation. Quick cab to King’s Cross?

Coal Drops Yard is a gorgeous area - mostly comprised of shops, food and canal. Perhaps you could email some restaurants and see which can guarantee suitable food.

You won't need a cab to get from St Pancras to King's Cross! You can just walk across the street 😀

Hard to recommend activities without knowing what you like to do, OP, but if I only had a few hours (allowing 90 minutes for dinner before boarding train), I'd just go for a walk. From KX the Victoria line will take you to Green Park, where you can check out the Ritz and Fortnum & Mason's on Piccadilly if you so desire, then walk down through the park to the Palace, then through St James's park (one of the nicest) to Westminster, from where you can walk up to National Gallery if you like, or go across the bridge to the South Bank. Or anywhere really.

In Coal Drops Yard, some nice places to eat are the Coal Office restaurant (Israeli-inspired), Barrafina, the Granary Square brasserie. There's also a new museum that's just opened there, called Queer Britain, looks interesting. The bookshop on the canal boat is worth checking out.

Thank you all, looking at all these suggestions!

I've been at Saint Pancreas recently and left luggage was open

eyeteevee · 29/09/2022 13:40

How big are the cases? If they are cabin sizes I would keep it with me. It's easy to hop in a bus/tube with small cases. If they are huge and/super heavy take them to LL at King's Cross, which is beside St Pancras (assuming your train home is also at Pancras)

Hand luggage size. We're off to Paris for a long weekend so won't have loads of stuff

If it were me I’d get a taxi with my cases and enjoy a swim and spa afternoon at the one of the nicer London hotels like Claridges followed by a drink in the hotel bar afterwards.
