To ask if you would send to school

5 year old woke up very upset complaining of a sore throat
They have eaten breakfast fine and are watching tv. If asked if ok "yes, but it still hurts"
Would you send to school?

Yes, I did last week with my 5yo. No temp, took a look at her throat was red but no spots so in she went.

I would give them paracetamol and mention it at school during drop off.

Yes, it's a sore throat. Imagine if nobody went to school or work if they had sore throats..the world would stop

And also a sore ear now. But I guess that's linked

There's a bit of a difference to an adult and a sobbing five year old.

If mine were up in the night unwell or needing medicine, temp or didn’t eat their breakfast I would usually keep them off. Slept through the night, no temp and happily eating breakfast as normal then a dose of medicine and in they went.

I’d send to school but maybe make a gp appointment if the ear is hurting as well.
Mysa74 · 29/09/2022 07:53
Yes, I would. There are going to be a lot of germs around this winter. Save the sick days for when you really need them .

There’s going to be lots of days like this, you know your child best. If my child was sobbing, I would keep them off, give calpol and see if they feel better with it. I have sent my DC in knowing they are not 100% only to get a phone call to come and collect them.
