And how much it costs?

Thought I might keep this going. (It’s marginally less depressing to think of as a bit of challenge!). We have had a few treats this week, as there was a good olio pick up locally, and I sold some things for more than I budgeted for.

Meal Plan

W Leftover roast veg and camembert/beans on toast
T bacon and mushroom spaghetti carbonara/mash beans and cheese
F pizza and cookies
S leftover camembert with bread, leftover carbonara/hot dogs bread and butter pudding

S Meatless roast/hot dog sausages and mash
M Root veg rosti/macaroni cheese
T beef and mushroom stew and dumplings/veg fajitas (freezer)

W french onion soup with Parmesan croutons/Spaghetti Bolegnese

Breakfast are eggs or cereal for DD, coffee and biscuits for me. She takes jam or cheese sandwiches, crisps and choc bars for lunch, and also buys stuff with her pocket money. After school snacks are toast, breakfast bars, crumpets and olio goodies. I rarely eat lunch but there is always soup if I feel like it.

I scored pastries, sweet potatoes and mushrooms from Olio and my mum gave me bacon and Parmesan out of her fridge as she is going away, and I gave her a lift to the airport.

2 loaves of bread 1.38
Cream 1.09
Butter 1.99 (bloody hell!)
Ham (for the dog’s tablets) 0.79
Camembert 2.19
Mozzarella x 2 1.38
Milk 3.10
Tinned tomatoes 40
Crisps 99
Choc bars 62
Braising steak 3.49
Lemons 75

Came to £18.17. I also bought custard and rich tea fingers from Tesco for £2.30. I did go slightly over budget, but like I said, it didn’t matter so much this week. As before, I get eggs from a friend, olive oil from my mother, I bulk buy sacks of flour and I grow a lot of our vegetables. This week I will use parsley, basil, potatoes, carrots, onions, kale and beans.

Potatoes
Mince
Onions
Carrots

We make a lot of stuff from scratch and batch cook. Or well I do.

I am trying to cut back as it’s now just me and dd2 (dd1 just left for uni), I am finding it hard not doing a big shop and I end up throwing things away. I did a shop today but will also pick up any offers I see during the week (I like going to M&S and getting the yellow stickers)

2 chicken breasts
meatballs
spaghetti
Eggs
cheese
Ham
Bread
Apples
green beans
mini cucumbers
carrots
cabbage
milk
smoothie
yoghurts
biscuits
oats (To make flapjacks)
dried fruit
pumpkin and sunflower seeds
toilet roll

we will be eating out tomorrow and Sunday it’s just me as DD at her dads. Dd has packed lunches, so ham sandwiches, mini cucumbers and the flapjacks will be for her lunch box. We also have pork chops and some salmon in the freezer and a ton of tomatoes from the garden so will use these during the week. I really need to get my shop down to £40 a week for 2 of us.

This pretty standard shopping list for the week. 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 teens. Lidl

Varies according to what I fancy to eat each week.

InCheesusWeTrust · 07/10/2022 21:02

Well the first things to lose are out of season berries nad the shop will be half😁

Quite at awe at hoe many things you buy each week when usually you would exoect them to last unless there are 8 people in the house

This is so interesting!

family of 5 here. generally spend about £130 - £150 per week Tesco delivery.
for that we usually get :

5-7 evening meals (depending on plan and leftovers etc - all generally “normal” family staples like bolognaise, sausage & mash etc)
lunches for every day - sandwiches, crisps, yogurts, snack bars, home made soups, super noodles etc.
breakfast stuff - fruit loaf, toast, porridge etc
fruit & veg
cheese, eggs, milk, bread
tea & coffee (lots of ground coffee!)
snacks
lots of peanut butter & marmite
condiments
freezer staples for the kids

dog treats & poo bags

toilet roll, kitchen roll, soap, cleaning stuff, washing powder, dishwasher tabs etc

toiletries - shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste
night nappies & wipes

Sometimes booze

I never know if this is a lot or not! Some of my mates spend ££ more and some spend ££ less.

its definitely creeping up. I do a weekly delivery and do find that I spend less than when I go instore. We are generally good at meal planning etc.
