Wibu to get a cat

OriginalUsername3 · 28/09/2022 17:11

Will be leaving abusive DH soon. And I'm struggling with perspective and seeing where lines should be.

I love cats, grew up with cats. He is allergic.

After we've split, wibu to get a cat. We share a DS so he would have second hand contact. I know DS living with a cat would raise his allergies. So can I never have a cat?

Get that cat asap 🐈‍⬛ You deserve it. His allergies are none of your concern.

Grandeur · 28/09/2022 17:14

Get a cat. So what if he's allergic? Not your problem anymore.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/09/2022 17:18

Of course you should get a cat. Fuck him and his allergies.

MangoBiscuit · 28/09/2022 17:19

Do it, I did 😁

Poppyseed14 · 28/09/2022 17:28

Get 2 OP. They are good company for each other.

Soproudoflionesses · 28/09/2022 17:29

First thing l did when l split up with my cat hating ex! Cat brings me so much more joy than the ex ever did!!

Just remember you will be your cat's slave, they train you up in no time at all haha!

CoffeeLover90 · 28/09/2022 17:31

Definitely get the cat. Much better than an abusive dickhead.

EmmaH2022 · 28/09/2022 17:36

How allergic is he? He must have friends who have cats?

lanthanum · 28/09/2022 18:03

Has your DS been around cats much? You should check whether he's allergic first - it often runs in families.

If DS puts clean clothes on before visits, there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 28/09/2022 18:06

Abusive? fuck him, get a cat

Definitely this - my DS inherited cat allergy from DH.

Assuming your child is fine, definitely get a cat. I'd say swapping an abusive dickhead for a cat is an excellent outcome...

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/09/2022 19:39

Assuming child is fine... get a cat, get two, make sure they are MASSIVE FLUFFY BASTARDS. Ideally the sort that will give your ex evils out the front room window when he collects/drops off child. Gatekeeper, supervisory doorman type cats.

If he is allergic to cat dander on childs clothing, oh well, he will have to fund an entire alternate wardrobe for child, to stay at his property won't he. Zero fucks given.

magma32 · 28/09/2022 19:41

In that case I would get two long haired cats.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 28/09/2022 19:44

When I left exh the first thing I bought was a dpuppy. He didn't know it was in the pipeline along side my new address! The joy at collecting her was such a smug middle finger up!

Brilliant.

Get yourself a miniature overlord, if it's a problem for your ex he can provide all the clothes he likes for his contact time.

Bumblefuzz · 28/09/2022 20:09

The optimal number of cats in a household is 3. I think big, fluffy ones would be appropriate. I don't really trust anyone that doesn't like cats.

BibiBlocksberg · 28/09/2022 20:33

Agree with the optimal no of 3 :) Start with 2 OP, far less parental guilt if you need to go out & leave them for a few hours.

They are more sociable than popular press gives them credit for (tested by experience from one who was was convinced all felines wanted to be ‘onlies’

Plus, marvellous bed/lap warmers so win win to keep heating bills down this winter :)

SpinningFloppa · 28/09/2022 20:36

The whole point of breaking up is that it’s now none of his business what you do, or course you can get a cat 🤷‍♀️

SpinningFloppa · 28/09/2022 20:40

Also he must come into contact with people that have cats? This is not something to give any thought to

OriginalUsername3 · 29/09/2022 09:33

He has stayed at a family members house who has cats and survived. I guess I just know he'd feel like I'd done it to hurt him or something. It feels selfish to do something I know would make life harder for him.

get two
in your position I’d buy two male Norwegian Forest Cats. Massive buggers and shed loads of gorgeous luxuriant fur

I bet he's not even allergic and just doesn't like them or knows you do so used this as an excuse to stop you getting one.
Fuck what he thinks, makes no difference.
I'd say get a really fluffy one that shreds a lot but obviously it be left to you to clean up after.
Get your favourite type of little feline and have a lovely life together.
