Vinted out of pocket

Just sold an item on Vinted for £3, buyer selected Royal Mail as delivery service (didn't realise you could deselect these). The postage sent was £2.15 but when I came to sort the postage on the Royal Mail website it was coming out at £2.85 so 70p out of pocket. Whilst this isn't a lot I would have to print the label off at work, drive to a post office which is completely out of my way by 10 minutes. I messaged the buyer informing her I would be out of pocket and her attitude was 'right ok?', I messaged again and had a response 'lol I've cancelled it'.

I was going to cancel it anyway as I would have come away with £2.30 and after driving to post it and packaging I would be left with next time nothing.

Am I unreasonable for not wanting to be 70p out of pocket? 😂

Just as a side note, Royal Mail did have the option to collect from my house but the next available day was next Wednesday as Saturday and Sunday was unavailable and Vinted gave me 5 days to post the item so this wasn't an option.

@cardibach the EVRI deliveries to store are absolutely fine - I've had 0 issues with them buying and selling.

Delivery to home is a different story.

I’ve sold hundreds of things on vinted and never had a problem with Evri 🤷🏻‍♀️ Bought a good few things too and have always received them.
Yodel on the other hand - if someone has selected them then there’s always an issue.

I stopped using vinted was finding I was constantly at the post office all the time running around like a headless chicken. I know it sounds silly.

Shinyhappyperson22 · 28/09/2022 17:14

This happened to me and I was the buyer. The seller had posted it though. I can’t offer to refund the difference as there are no bank details exchanged. I’m sorry that they were out of pocket but it’s not my fault either I just select an option!

If this happens cancel and explain to purchaser, I’d have re ordered with a different delivery no issue

I really wish people selling would only give the options for delivery that are convenient for them. As a buyer I don’t know which ones you prefer!

MrsDThomas · 28/09/2022 18:04

Ive switched Evri off now. There are 2 local inposts to me(convenience) but they’re always unavailable.

switched to yodel drop off only now which is a walk at lunchtime. A mile each way

spudsuliked · 28/09/2022 18:26

Have had similar as a new user and the issue for me turned out to be that buying Royal Mail postage online is cheaper than in the store which I had no idea about.. (although it sounds like you did buy online..) to be fair when I raised it with vinted to try and figure out why the prices weren't lining up they did refund the difference. However I've learnt now to double check postage options and opt for larger parcel if I'm not sure..

feathersandslats · 28/09/2022 19:10

You’re lucky you didn’t use the collect service for £2.15. I did that new to Vinted, my buyer was charged £3.50 as it was underpaid so I only made 50p. Chalked it down to experience, turned off Royal Mail and moved on.

AllFadestoBlack · 28/09/2022 19:21

I bought an item today from Vinted and the only postage option was "other" at £3.35, which I think is a small parcel with Royal Mail or it's roughly about that.

I'm thinking of selling on Vinted but don't have a printer so would use post office. If I could select other as the only postage and set my price in-line with royal mail I'd do that. Seems a simple work around but haven't seen it from other sellers before.

AllFadestoBlack · 28/09/2022 19:35

I'm wrong, it was custom shipping not other.

OM82 · 28/09/2022 19:43

I'm the opposite and Evri and Yodel don't work for me. Closest place to drop off Evri is over 20 miles away, Yodel even further (and they regularly take over a week or to deliver once it's reached the local office.)

I've done what @AllFadestoBlack has suggested. Turned postage to "custom" only and I set the price to match the Royal Mail one. And state in the description "postage is Royal Mail 2nd class". If you can print off the label yourself you can drop it off in a postbox or collection seems to be free at the moment? I've always been able to get it collected the next day if it's too big for a postbox!

abw94 · 28/09/2022 13:22

So you would go out of your way to sort postage out, get packaging, drive 10 mo it's out of your way for.... £2.30?

If it was £5+ I wouldn't have said anything but it's absolutely pointless for £2.30.

You’d agreed to sell the item for £3, so it was never going to be £5+! 🤦‍♀️

Itstheimplication · 28/09/2022 20:04

It’s annoying but I would have taken the hit and written it off as a lesson learned as it was only 70p

ToffeeEl · 28/09/2022 20:07

This was a problem for me for quite a few items, and then I realised there was an option on Royal Mail that is actually 2.15. (And kicked myself as id been on the Vinted chat complaining about the problem..)

When you're selecting your parcel size it's actually a letter you need to pick, and then it's £2.15 and the measurements are pretty much the same

That’s not convenient for me though. They are utter, utter crap and I have cancelled some regular orders with companies who have switched to using them. I do t want to have to go to a shop. I don’t want the hassle. A decent delivery service can get a parcel to someone’s home.

Shazza8299 · 18/10/2022 18:37

To save the hassle of driving to the post office they are collecting for free at the moment and will Bring your label too.

Stayathomenamechange · 18/10/2022 18:43

I know it's frustrating but would have honoured the sale without mentioning it to the buyer- it's not her problem. After selling for a while you can turn off the postage options that don't work for you, plus you sometimes find that the postage costs work in your favour.
