Who was in the wrong - him or me?

Long day working for both of us. Back to back meetings all day for me and rushing to even fit in a wee during the day. After work I cooked dinner - I really fancied a “proper” dinner as was cold and did sausages, veg and proper gravy. After dinner he offered to bath the dog as she had been itching like mad despite having her regular treatments, which was helpful whilst I cleaned up the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher and some more washing up - as quite a lot that couldn’t go in the dishwasher. I offered a cup of tea and prepped that. He didn’t want any dessert and I had some cream and meringues to use up so made myself a quick pud and sat down with my pud and book whilst he was still bathing the dog. He then shouted downstairs for me to come and get the hairdryer out. I called up - it’s where it usually is - he shouted back down not sure what then shouted don’t worry - so I stayed down. I had no more than 10 mins on my own just having a brief moment. He came back down then complained that I hadn’t even bothered to help him with the dog/hairdryer and instead had chosen to sit and read a book - how dare I! I was furious and said don’t put that guilt on me - I’ve not stopped all day and I was having 10 mins eating a pudding you didn’t want! Still humpy about it and so is he. Was I being unreasonable?

yabu to list every tiny detail of what you did after work to try and make your activity monumental

mowly77 · 28/09/2022 01:11

I live for this shit @RockItLikeRocketFuel why else do you come to MN?!

CactusBlossom · 28/09/2022 01:13

At the very least I would have expected a photo of the dog!

If the dog has itchy skin, a trip to the vet might be in order - unless it's a special dog shampoo being used for that specific purpose.

I think you are both tired and on edge. For goodness sake, kiss and make up. It's not worth spoiling a day fuming about drying the dog.

steff13 · 28/09/2022 01:20

It's sounds like you've both had a long day and you're both tired. Also, "pud" means something very different in the US than it does in the UK, apparently.

I could see a scenario where I was struggling with a wet dog and couldn't put my hand on what I needed,in which case I would ask for help(even though I should have planned and got everything ready first) Your set up and dog response to a bath might not be an issue though meaning you can leave the dog and fetch what you've forgotten with no issues. Mine runs around ,rubbing himself on the floor and shaking water everywhere. In the former case I might be a bit fed up you didn't help. However it isn't the end of the world and you should both get on with it. Prepping a cup of tea?

IcakethereforeIam · 28/09/2022 01:23

I want more detail on the meringues.

Discovereads · 28/09/2022 01:23

@steff13
OMG! I had forgotten that, but you’re right, “pud” means “penis”….and OP had her pud with cream too! 😂

Huntswomanonthemove · 28/09/2022 01:25

He is unreasonable. My DH drives me nuts sometimes for this very reason. Even if I’m doing something myself, if he’s doing something he can’t manage without needing my help for some trivial reason.

YABU, you should have stuck a brush up your arse and swept the floor while finding the hairdryer.

Agree - I was definitely feeling martyr’ like - but yes he is quite needy and I definitely need to be more forceful on sharing chores and duties. The dog had just got some new dog shampoo from the vets - she actually loves a bath and is quite happy splashing around. In fact one time DS had left the bath water in, unknown to us, the dog in the middle of the night had gone into the bathroom and in my sleep I heard a splash then quickly came too realising that the dog had gone in the bath - queue lots of running around catching her after she jumped back out spraying water everywhere! Lol - didn’t know the alternative for pud either! Was definitely not the other. Anyway off to work for another long one.
