Firework display priced the same for all

MarianneVos · 27/09/2022 15:34

My local firework display has just put tickets up for sale. £8 early bird, £10 nearer the time.

The price is per person, and is the same for adults or children. Even tiny babies apparently need a ticket each at the same price.

AIBU to think this is unfair and there should be some discount for children, or at least very young children?

Surely young children will get the most enjoyment out of it though?

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2022 15:36

Babies is stupid but I think you can set it as anyone who is likely to enjoy it, pays.

Stupider is adults paying at soft play. I'm paying to torture myself.

Meseekslookatme · 27/09/2022 15:36

No one is forced to buy a ticket, but babes in arms are normally and should be free.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/09/2022 15:36

Since a firework display is equally enjoyable (or unenjoyable) for adults and children... its fair to charge the same price. Especially if there is a venue limit.

Free for babies/toddlers though!

Loachworks · 27/09/2022 15:37

That's the beauty of fireworks. You can see them from well outside the cordon of the event...

NameChangeLifeChange · 27/09/2022 15:37

Seems mad for a baby in arms to pay a tenner but otherwise in a lot of ways it’s easier? Surely they’re just make it £15 for adults and £5 for a child and you’d end up paying the same just structured differently?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 27/09/2022 15:37

Under twos should go free to things like this IMO, they are going to get literally nothing from this, you will miss loads due to sorting them out, and you might have to take them away if the loud bangs scare them.

jtravis1 · 27/09/2022 15:38

Normally kids go in at a cheaper price, so its a bit strange that.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/09/2022 15:38

I wouldn't take a very young child or baby to a fireworks display anyway - they usually hate it.

SuperCamp · 27/09/2022 15:38

From the organisers pov the fireworks cost the same, no matter who is watching.

Only assuming a 1:1 parent/child ratio.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 27/09/2022 15:39

Depends because most firework displays have a capacity issue so young young kids in prams and pushchairs take up the same or more space than a standing person. Our local one used to ask people to not bring pushchairs or leave them in the clubhouse so they didn't take up too much space in the viewing area.

I also think that firework displays are more aimed at kids. I don't think I know any adults who go without kids.

PlasticSheetingRTÉNews · 27/09/2022 15:40

Why should a child get a reduced rate?

I can never figure this out. They’re getting the exact same experience as everyone else.

10HailMarys · 27/09/2022 15:40

Why? It's not like your child somehow uses fewer fireworks.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 27/09/2022 15:41

Bargain.

Vip tickets for ours are £20 each. 😂

Subeccoo · 27/09/2022 15:45

I guess the point of cheaper child tickets is to encourage families to come.when mine were little, £50 for all of us = too much, just wouldn't go. £35 = fine. Bear in mind then hopefully we'd be able to spend money in the venue, in my mind it makes better business sense.

StoneofDestiny · 27/09/2022 15:47

Same price for all - babies in arms free (though taking a baby to fireworks display is odd (given how many Mumsnet parents complain the children are seriously disturbed just by kids playing in the street passed 7.00 pm)

You do realise though that places put up the adult ticket prices to offer cheaper childrens tickets!

Children or not people will decide if they are willing to pay the cost, and will most likely spend money when there so I don’t see how that is an argument for children to be cheaper at a family event like this

ilovesooty · 27/09/2022 15:50

I don't see why all attendees shouldn't pay the same.

Angelicapickles1 · 27/09/2022 15:50

Our local display does a adult and child ticket for £6.50. No separate adult ticket so in effect the child is free ..you can pay £5 for an extra child.

£40 each for VIP! It includes free alcohol but I'm not sure my newborn will manage forty quids worth.

I don't see fireworks as a kids thing, we always went as a couple when child free.

I see it as a kids thing.

I only started going once I had kids.

TwinkleChristmas · 27/09/2022 16:29

Our local fireworks display is donation only.
With a open bar and food stalls.
It is in a village though and not a city.

I wonder if it will be donation only this year with the cost of things increasing though 🤔

Johnnysgirl · 27/09/2022 16:30

Maybe they're trying to discourage people from bringing babies? It's not a particularly baby friendly event.

MargaretThursday · 27/09/2022 16:32

I suspect the reason is that they've had under 2s free or similar before and had arguments at the door with people who have bought their obviously at least 6yo and are claiming they're under 2yo.
