Am I unreasonable for getting RAC to deliver petrol

Running really low on petrol yesterday. Planned to fill up only to find out the garage had run out. Rural town, one garage, there is another garage the next town over, Likely I’d of made it but not 100% sure, it would of been a complete disaster to run out on the road. My day is tight time wise I work a long day and take my only break at 3:20 to drive to my place meet kids off school bus drive back put them in after school club near where I work back to work for 4:15. No garages on the way no chance I’d of made it there and back twice to get myself back to work today.

I reported myself as running low on petrol to RAC and they dropped me off 10L for £20 which at only £4 more than the pump price seems like a bargain. My colleague thinks I am ridiculously cheeky. I think it was the best solution so AIBU

If it is a service they offer then why not?

womaninatightspot · 27/09/2022 13:19

Well that was my point. I pay for membership a bit like I pay for insurance so when things go wrong. Someone else can help sort it out.

Apparently I’m depriving people who need rescuing of help.

No. Rescues would have been prioritised. They fit you in because they had time to. None of her business

Trudij123 · 27/09/2022 13:21

Oh rubbish, you’d wait your turn if there was an emergency or someone needing help over you who was at work.

im with @Comefromaway - if it’s something they do then you can’t be unreasonable for using the service!

AspireMe · 27/09/2022 13:21

If they had a problem with it, they wouldn't have delivered it.

Honestly, the neuroses of some people on here.

Why do you care what your colleague thinks?

If you got voted 100% YABU and told you were being cheeky and then in a months time found yourself in exactly the same situation and didn't have enough petrol to get to the next garage, would you just resign yourself to being stuck at home, or would you do the same thing again?

And if the latter, then why ask?

girlmom21 · 27/09/2022 13:22

I didn't know this was a thing - that's a great service. Definitely not unreasonable.

gatehouseoffleet · 27/09/2022 13:43

Sounds ok to me, if it's a service they offer, why not?

The AA allows five call-outs a year for one car under their fair play scheme (or used to). I think the last time I called them out was about 8 years ago, so if I needed petrol, I'll feel a prat for running out, but I wouldn't be guilty for using the service I paid for.

LondonQueen · 27/09/2022 19:41

It's a service you pay for so hardly unreasonable of you. You would have been bottom of the list so clearly no one else needed the help, she should mind her own business.

Dacadactyl · 27/09/2022 19:42

100% YANBU.

OurChristmasMiracle · 27/09/2022 19:43

I mean I wouldn’t make a habit of it personally but as a one off it had to be done. And probably much more convenient for them and you for them to pop some petrol to you than you to break down (and potentially safer depending on where you could have broken down)
