To burst into tears because of Cheap Flights to Disney World Florida?

QuintessentialShadow · 24/01/2008 22:09

I guess I am.

But it is hitting me, all that I am about to leave behind. From where I am going to live shortly, the very idea of going to Disney World is so out of the question due to the high costs, it is totally unfeasible. We are not talking £599 per person, but thousands...

Kew Gardens
London Wetland Centre
My house
My new conservatory
My friends
My childrens friends
My sons school I was so delighted he got into
My youngest sons new nursery.

Heck, even John Lewis, Peter Jones, Kew Retail Park... sobbety sob.

I could sob my heart out, but whats the point.

where are you going?

QuintessentialShadow · 24/01/2008 22:15

Norway, the far north. Next door to Santa Claus. To be close to my elderly and ailing parents.

No, you're not being unreasonable. I left 'home' on an expat assignment with my DH's job almost 2 yrs ago, and we are about to return back to the UK in a few weeks. Leaving was the worst sort of wrench I could imagine - all the things you say and more. It is the little things you miss too, just the daily life.

That said, though, we've been perfectly happy where we are right now (Canada) and it has been a good experience for all of us.

Where are you going and why?

nortynamechanger · 24/01/2008 22:20

I just want to go shopping. And bring ALL London with me. Tableware, bedlinens, clothes. I want to buy the entire Vertbaudet catalogue.

Oh, quintessential, sorry it is hitting you. I had similar when I left Africa to return home (and I did bring the whole of whetherlys back with me), and to be honest, the itch never leaves you.

But there is so much you will love when you get there I am sure. People who 'get' you better because you share the same culture, the northern lights, skiing the midnight sun in Narvic in the summer, the crystal waters that your children can learn to dive in, the FREE schools that let your children BE children, rather than have them pushed through an exam-infested sausage machine, the cleanliness everywhere (well, maybe not Narvic, from what I can remember.....) the cloudberry sauce, the open expanses, the lack of huge disparities between the rich and the poor..... there is so much to look forward to. and of course these days there are loads of cheap flights between the UK and Norway, so your friends and you can stay in touch.

I didn't move as far as you will be from the Kew Retail Park but I do miss that even ! more importantly I miss my friends in W London and miss Kew Gardens, but at least I can get back. Where are you now Quintessential, out of curiosity ?

QuintessentialShadow · 25/01/2008 13:31

Thanks Squiffy. You are right.

I just had a long conversation with my youngest nursery, and they suggest I try put the move in a more positive light as he appears badly affected emotionally. So from now on I will be all smiles.

MaryAnnSingleton, my son goes to the same school as you did as a child..... St..... mags.
