What a tit. He would be alright as he can afford private healthcare, what does he expect the majority of us to do with no Nhs? Does he just say whatever comes into his head for attention.

There are plenty of options between the current NHS and “no healthcare for anyone who can’t afford to pay for it privately out of pocket”.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2022 17:09

He'll say anything for publicity. (And I speak as a lefty who loves his farm and top gear).

AclowncalledAlice · 26/09/2022 17:46

If abolishing the NHS was popular he'd be arguing to keep it. He thrives on being "controversial" as it's the only way he can get to make people notice him. The man's an egotistical twat.

Wandsup · 26/09/2022 18:22

Lots of rich people think that. Lots of twats think that. He fits into both camps.

I don’t use the NHS but I don’t resent funding it in a very small way through the tax I pay because it’s needed. It’s part of what makes us a society.

HelloMrBond · 26/09/2022 18:28

In a way he is right. But there are a lot of half way houses between a fully funded NHS and a totally un funded one. I currently have a severe problem with my ears and am quite quickly going deaf. I have tried and tried to get a gp appointment so I’ve now resorted to save up to go private.

Not that I don’t believe he’s said it but can you post a link please?

I don't know what he has said but I do think universal healthcare for all isn't sustainable. I know creating any kind of cut off point is almost impossible in terms of fairness and political capital but I do think that somehow, those who can afford to pay, should.

Sone might say you had to do that because the nhs is under funded.

Hbh17 · 26/09/2022 18:43

He over-dramatises things for comic effect but, fundamentally, he is right. We waste so much money on the NHS to little effect - it is like pouring water into a bucket with a hole in the bottom. A hybrid partial state & partial insurance system might actually encourage the public to take some responsibility and not misuse the service.

Quveas · 26/09/2022 18:45

I wouldn't trust him to recommend a car. He's an idiot. Why would you think he knows anything about any subject?

midgetastic · 26/09/2022 18:46

What a load of rubbish

Despite what sone would
Like you to believe we pay on average a lot less than most of the world for a better health service

Sone tweaks perhaps to prevent abuse but fundamentally it's the cheapest fairest option

Come up with something really better

bozzabollix · 26/09/2022 18:47

He’s an utter bellend. Private hospitals really don’t do emergency or critical care very well, when the curly haired prick finally succumbs to his inevitable cardiac event it’ll be an NHS hospital that tries to save him.

sagalooshoe · 26/09/2022 18:47

What a c word.

MarshaBradyo · 26/09/2022 18:48

I probably shouldn’t entertain his thinking to even comment on it but.. crazy

spicysoup · 26/09/2022 18:48

It's basically what the Tory party are trying to do. They've actively making it so crap that the private sector booms and they can run the NHS down.

colourmebladd · 26/09/2022 18:49

Yes. They should pay via taxes and have the same access as people with less money.

Universal healthcare for all. Equal healthcare for all.

Mumoblue · 26/09/2022 18:52

Didn’t he also say that people striking for their pensions should be shot? He’s a dickhead.

Disappointing how mainstream the “what if poor people just died” attitude is.

CodingWitch · 26/09/2022 18:52

That's because he is a twat.

bellinisurge · 26/09/2022 18:52

Yes, it's stupid and crass of him. But we need to talk about whether NHS is working. And, yes, I know the Tories have been underfunding it to create a fire sale scenario. But it was patchy (and often utterly shite) under Labour. Sadly, I've had to have a lot of interaction with it over the past 15 years - including under Labour.
We treat the NHS like a state religion that can never be criticised and it doesn't do us any favours.

Abra1t · 26/09/2022 18:54

He’s a controversialist. Saying extreme things is what he does for his work.

That said, he is right that other countries in Europe have systems that better benefit people from all income levels.

EuripidesEumenides · 26/09/2022 18:57

Can't see the article because it's behind a pay wall so it's hard to judge without the full context. If he is saying that the current funding model is unsustainable and that we should consider alternatives then that's fair enough. If he's saying we need to bin state healthcare provision then he's being a provocative bellend.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/09/2022 19:12

What strikes me the most about the NHS debate is the failure for anyone to mention that this is a political tactic as old as politics itself. Defund something so that it no longer functions as it should, gut it right out, this of course angers the public, then along you come with a solution to dismantle it entirely to much applause from the public from the consent you've just manufactured. Along come all the tory donors with efficient medical agencies just ready to 'support' the NHS and wuHoo!! a fully working, fully privatised NHS and lots of happy very rich tories.

SirGawain · 26/09/2022 19:19

I would just let his remarks fall by the weight of their own folly!

I don't think it's possible to improve on this post!
