Sad on a Sunday night?

Is it just the law that around this time on a Sunday night you feel an overwhelming sadness and almost nostalgic feeling? Can't just be me surely?

Absolutely yes! I don't tend to get this until the Sundays when the nights start drawing in.

As a child I really hated school though. I was allowed to stay up for 'That's Life' so the end theme tune for the show would fill me with Monday-eve dread. Then I'd lay in bed feeling miserable and the theme tune for 'The South Bank Show' (think that's what it was..) would drift up the stairs.

I enjoy my job now but I love my weekends, down time with my family and a few drinks, so I do feel a bit glum when Sunday night comes. By Monday morning I'm fine, so it's definitely a Sunday night thing.

Yup here ... just been doing a zoom quiz with friends and the music rounds were full of music that reminds me of when DH (now dead) and I first met. It is breaking me up.

Aww I'm sorry to hear that, it must be awful. Hope you're okay Flowers

Is knowing your time isn't your own for another week.
Up early. The fucking drive.
On paper, my day looks OK. But then it's after school lessons and phonecalls. Then the drive home.
Tea. But knowing that as soon as you've had tea, you should really crack on with work again. Bed.
Intersperse with driving kids to activities and rows with dh.
Friday.

Bless you - I am listening to some very different music on spotify to break the spell. What a life. You just have to take what you get.

I never knew this was a thing. Now it makes perfect sense!

Ah the Sunday night blues, what's making it worse at the moment is there is nothing on TV that doesn't need me to concentrate. Usually I would sit and watch the Strictly results or X Factor whilst sorting out my bag for work and I had already done my ironing whilst countryfile was on. But since working from home I don't need to iron or sort my bag out. I still dread Mondays though.

Omg. Yes.
I've had this too since I was a child. I hated school top. The feeling of dread. And YY to to sound of certain TV shows

Feeling of how much I suddenly loved home too and wanted to be at home. NOT school.

Still get it before work. I hate my job too, but don't fear it. But awful anxiety Sunday night and poor sleep. I normally sleep like a log.
Even when I don't work Monday I get it a little bit. And if I work Tuesday then I get the dread Monday night too.

It's worse in the dark nights.
Worse after holidays too. Used to be the same after school summer break and even worse after Christmas.

Antiques Roadshow Syndrome, I call it.

I hear that theme tune and I’m struck with existential dread, plus a terrifying realisation that I haven’t done my maths homework.

Totally agree. I think sundays in January are the absolute worst of the dread.

Especially going back to boarding school for six weeks, then even as a day child later especially teen it was Bulls Eye that signifies weekend over. Then commuting in London 12 hours days utterly hell.

Yes, I get the Sunday Blues. I have it now. However, I think it's linked to how prepared I am for the week ahead. For example, today I just couldn't bring myself to do any planning or resourcing for the coming week (teacher), so I know I'll be on the back foot tomorrow. Last week I did a few hours on the Sunday and didn't have this feeling.

It's my own fault, but at least I know I can lessen it if I want to. I'll just have to try and get in a bit earlier tomorrow morning and hunt out the resources for the lessons I have planned in my mind this evening!

Totally. Especially the first Sunday night before school/work. Bleak.

I'm self employed and sometimes get the Sunday blues even though I love what I do for the most part! It think it is just part of life, it's not just knowing that I'll be back to work but also my family and mates too

It's called Sundaynightitis in this house. It really is shit. Sadness the weekend is over and stress thinking about the week ahead.

We call it Sunday Night Fright Night because everyone gets sad and stressed about what next week might bring.

Being unprepared for Monday ie being in denial makes it worse.
Sitting there on a Sunday night drinking wine watching telly and I haven't packed my work bag makes the anxiety worse.
As does staying up late thinking Monday is far away and trying to make Sunday last longer.

I always get anxiety about work Monday but my shift pattern does differ all the time. But only in 2 days this week and a week off then

Completely agree with the antiques roadshow Grin

I agree too. Really refreshing to know it wasn't just me after all these years.

Nope, because I work shifts. I'm certainly mourning the passing of summer though

I like my job but always get Sunday night blues. Got a few things going on at home at the moment which makes it worse but always get that feeling even if everything is fine. As a teenager it was the music to Poriot that used to send me in to Sunday night blues!

I think the feeling worsens when the evenings start drawing in. It makes the awful inevitability of Monday seem even closer.

Report
PDAmomma · 25/09/2022 23:01

I don’t get that anymore. I don’t work on a Monday (or Tuesday) now and my son doesn’t currently go to school and I feel fine on a Sunday. But I had 20+ years of feeling it previously. I hadn’t thought about it until reading your post but I def think it must work/school related

Report
DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2022 23:39

Since I've had a job I love, I don't get the Sunday Blues. In my previous job I used to dread Sunday evenings. So it's definitely work related for me.
