to have expected the Spice Girls to have had support on in the MEN last night ?

tickets said doors open 6.00pm - 23 Jan 7.30pm - seasoned concert attendee to expect the support to come on at 8.00ish

we got there at 7.15, used the loo got drinks etc and into our seats for 7.40pm and waited, and waited and eventually at 9.00pm the lights went out and they came on

stayed until 10.35 and it was over

I was sooooo cross today i emailed the MEN to complain (and haven't heard anything)

now before you start taking the p**s out of me for going, I did see them many moons ago and they did put on a good show, and I adore live music

this is the first concert I've ever been to where you waited an hour and a half after the advertised start time, with no support

That's outrageous - my SIL went to see them at the O2 in December and they had support acts there

loolop · 24/01/2008 20:25

Actually just been speaking to SIL and they were supposed to have a support act called Alphabet(???) but they pulled out of the tour. She just had stuff going on on a big screen and the SG came on at 8.30pm and finished just after 10pm

ladymariner · 24/01/2008 20:29

That's rubbish, I thought all shows had a support act.

maisiedaisy · 24/01/2008 20:31

I am going on Saurday and I would expect a support act. I go to a lot of concerts and there has always been a support act.

ladymariner · 24/01/2008 20:45

Sometimes the support acts are really good, often unexpectedly.
When dh went to see REM a couple of years ago the guitarist, Peter Hook I think he's called (they're not my thing, can you tell?) was taken ill during the support act, and Micheal Stipe and another one came out after the interval to tell the audience that the show wouldn't be going ahead but would be rescheduled, and then they proceeded to do a few numbers just the two of them, with the theatre lights on, my dh said it was awesome, best support act he'd ever seen
And then when he saw the rescheduled show it was amazing, but then he is a massive fan. Good of them, though.

Not all shows have support bands. Most do but it is not unknown. Not surprised about the spice girls not having them because isnt it usual for bands with a mainly female (or young teenage) audience profile to be 'early on -early off'?

elfsmum · 24/01/2008 21:13

except they weren't early on early off

didn't come on until 9pm and it was 10.35 when they finished we didn't get out of the car park until gone 11pm, and was almost midnight when I got dropped off

my friend didn't get home until 12.30am !

anyway, I won't be giving them rave reviews

10.35 is early off its usually 11pm curfew at a lot of venues. 1hr 35mins is about the same length of time I have seen many bands perform - however am surprised at the 9pm start time without any entertainment at all. Was there not even a bit of audience TV or anything going on to fill in the time?

ladymariner · 24/01/2008 21:24

Saw Bruce Springsteen 22 years ago on the Born In The USA tour and he was on stage for the best part of 4 hours!!! What a man!

bluefox · 24/01/2008 21:26

Yes - the older bands/singers do seem to do longer sets.

chocolatespiders · 24/01/2008 21:28

after advice on here me and dd. didnt find our seats till 8.00, then they came on at 8.20 ish til 10.10 ish... loved it..... even ore so for seeing the man himself [lush emotion]

chocolatespiders · 24/01/2008 21:30

not sure it said + support on tickets..

intrested to see if MEN reply to you

ladymariner · 24/01/2008 21:30

And we saw Aerosmith about 11 years ago at Wembley and Stevie Tyler came on for the encore doing backflips all across the stage (and my heart!!!!) and he was no teenager then either.
(I said me and dh have different musical tastes!!)

Bellavita · 26/01/2008 21:47

Ladymariner - I also saw Bruce Springsteen on the same tour - those were the days when you got what you paid for!
