To buy something on Facebook marketplace using PayPal

There is an item I really want but it's miles away. Has anyone any experience of using PayPal for private sales and getting their money back if they don't receive the item?
Thanks

Don’t risk it.

I wouldn't risk it, but if you do make sure you use 'goods and services' and provide a detailed description on PayPal of the item and agreement re delivery/collection.

No, don't even go there.

I used FBMP a lot last year when we were getting ready to move and we had lots of stuff to get rid of, it could be a pain.
I would use eBay everytime when buying over distance as at least you get buyer protection.

If I was selling something valuable on FB MP, I wouldn't accept PayPal. Read so many stories where people claim the item didn't arrive, was stolen from doorstep or damaged on arrival, only for PayPal to issue a refund and not insist on item being returned.

I've bought a handful of postable items on marketplace & paid via PayPal goods & have always received the items. If its postable I'd do it. You are covered to get your money back if not received.

I sell lots of things on marketplace where I post and the buyer pays by PayPal. I include the fees in the postage cost and send signed for as I think the power is with the buyer who can claim back quite easily. It's more risky to sell that way than buy I would have thought.

Just make sure to use goods and services not friends and family. They may want to add the fees on to the price (it's usually not much), if they are trying to sell locally and weren't expecting to add them on, but you're covered then.

I've sold the odd thing this way, and have bought loads of boardgames from Fb selling groups, where it's strangers selling to each other and posting etc. Always been completely fine, but again, you're covered if you pay goods and services
