Help me with my milk disaster!

So we’ve just moved into an old house and I moved a piece of furniture and discovered some rotting skirting board and that the wooden floor doesn’t meet the wall. I was cooking dinner and my toddler poured milk down it. I’m really worried it’s going to smell. I’ve cleaned it as best as I can. Any suggestions to stop it going off and smelling? I know I need to replace the skirting but can’t afford to at the moment.

And yes, before anyone tells me off, I know I should have eyes in the back of my head or have covered the space but I didn’t think he would pour milk in this specific awkward corner of the room behind a chair, but of course he did because toddlers know your weak spots!

Something like Baking soda to neutralize it would help.

I second baking soda for the smell element. What about pouring rice all over the spillage area and letting it all soak up - could you then sweep or even hoover then rice up?! It may go like rice pudding of course

Spilt milk doesn't smell for ever.

Worst case scenario, it will stink for a few days then the smell will just go so I wouldn't panic op.

We had spilt milk in the car once. It went all down the side of the front passenger seat, there was just no way to clean it thoroughly. It stank for a few days then one day the smell was gone. I imagine there's some science behind it to do with enzymes or bacteria or something!

Might work might not-
do you have tampons or a pad? Cut it to fit the gap and ‘sponge’ off as much as you can.

Then if you have any tough paper towels ( like Regina blitz) fold it to fit the gap spray some dettol spray and wipe as much as possible.

Oh why do they do this kind of thing!!!

I would agree with trying to dry up as much as possible with something absorbent, let it air til the morning, then put down baking soda and hoover that up.
