To be miffed by mil's birthday video made by sil!

For my mil's 70th birthday, her daughter put together a video of messages from family and friends. We made one with dh and both dc (just because one is a toddler and the other is a baby on the move) and we made one with me, dh and dc1. Both videos were cute and not too long.

So we saw the final product after mil had seen it which was lovely, except sil had left out the video with dc2 in it and had cut the length of the other video. I was surprised because other people's messages were longer than ours and some had also done more than one. Plus, sil had also included a video of her cats 'saying' happy birthday!

Surely mil would have wanted her second gc to be in her video too? And why cut our other message. Is it just sil being a bit thoughtless or aibu for overthinking this?

I think people were just a bit confused, thinking that if you'd taken the trouble to write something down you might have something to say.

She probably put the whole thing together,
realised it was waaaay too long and then started editing bits out just to get it finished cos itl have stopped being fun and didn’t realise the significance of cutting out a grandchild. It was a nice thing she did for her mother, it’s not really about your baby so I think you are over thinking it. Just send the other video to mil and just say SIL didn’t manage to squeeze this one in so you’ve just sent it as an extra as it has both DC in it.

I can’t imagine getting worked up about not getting the same length video as another family member in something like this. Hopefully you all still said thanks to your SIL for going to the effort to organise and put this together.

OP why don’t you message SIL and say how much you lived the video etc and ask if she received both videos you sent as you couldn’t see the one you sent with X in it and see what she says.

Much like yours then. Of course it could be that it was neither of your interpretations, or did that not occur to you? But by all means spend your day worrying about what I was saying. I am not sure why you care though.
