They have done enormous damage already and seem determined to do even more.

The tiny proportion of the electorate who voted for Truss does not equal democracy, so she needs to call an election asap to get a mandate for her policies (or not),

DifficultBloodyWoman · 23/09/2022 21:29

I don’t support anti-anything.

I can, however, be persuaded to support causes that are pro-something.

Tell me what you are in favour of and I’ll see if I can support it.

Leilu · 23/09/2022 21:21

How very “left”, wanting something but expecting someone else to do it for you.

😆

im centre left but absolutely agree with this it’s very typical

Loics · 23/09/2022 21:32

Come on, we only need use of "leftist" and "loony left" and my ToryBot bingo card is full. 😉

SunscreenCentral · 23/09/2022 21:33

x2boys · 23/09/2022 21:14

What do you think that will achieve?
When it comes to a general election people will vote for whoever they feel best represents them .

People in the UK are fucked, fucked royally and once more for the Rosie because it doesn't matter a damn how you all vote.

Loics · 23/09/2022 21:35

x2boys · 23/09/2022 21:28

In reality though there is only one real alternative which is labour and they are not exactly setting the world on fire with their policies
Maybe a more dynamic leader would help Keir Starmer is a bit insipid

That's true, I'm not a Labour voter by choice, I do vote for them as it's a swing seat, so voting Labour is the only real way to ensure we don't get a Tory MP. It's annoying as Keir Starmer is much, much more capable and qualified to be PM than Truss (and Johnson), but he often lacks conviction.

Greenbather · 23/09/2022 21:35

Here is something I am for - not totally fucking the environment and also decent working people who keep this country afloat.

x2boys · 23/09/2022 21:38

But that's not the way it works though ,we vote for a party, the leader of the party might inspire people to vote for them ,bit the party is still in power even if the pm has been ousted ie Boris
I think the next general election if Liz Truss and Keir Starmer are both still leaders will be quite interesting.

As per a PP, look at Enough is Enough. Lots of protests planned for the 1st October.

Thank you

YANBU
It would be a far better option than rioting.

Thank you

I bet a month's salary you won't go.

Johnson won his constituency vote with 25,351 (52%) and tiny percentage of the vote

we vote for an MP who represents a party that we support

we do not vote for a PM. I know he was a vote winner but very few voters voted directly for him

Greenbather · 23/09/2022 21:42

This is making me laugh if nothing else, the lack of understanding of "how politics works", hilarious, needed a laugh on this horrendous day.

UWhatNow · 23/09/2022 21:42

No need for a protest - we live in a free democracy and there are plenty of legitimate opposition parties available. So if Tory is bad, how much worse are they?

MarshaBradyo · 23/09/2022 21:43

Responses made me laugh

But yes maybe you could start op

HRTQueen · 23/09/2022 21:44

I would write to your local Labour MP and ask them what they are plans the have to challenge this government

thats what I’m doing they need to get themselves in better shape to win the next election

and join a party you then have a vote on a potential leadership challenge

I'm actually a regular marcher going back years, as far back as section 28.

Then you’ll know which organisations are currently campaigning for the changes you want and can ask for their calendar of protests.

Scuttlingherbert · 23/09/2022 21:47

@jetadore and @NewBootsAndRanty

Ok so it's not completely illegal but the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act makes protest a lot more difficult and risky.

It gives the Home Secretary the right to decide what protests are acceptable.

It creates a new offence for certain protests that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

It gives the police the right to stop any protest causing 'annoyance'.

It's all very well saying 'we live in a democracy' etc but I don't believe we do live in a true democracy. I believe it's a managed democracy.

This is because of the relationship between the right and the media. In the last 2 elections, not one media outlet backed Labour.

When was the last time we had a government not backed by Rupert Murdoch

You do it if you want to

Noviembre · 23/09/2022 21:55

There's plenty. Aren't you paying any attention at all? Start with the Enough is Enough rally and work out from there with movements and mobilisations with other groups. Plenty of protests to attend.

mumda · 23/09/2022 22:18

Who'll replace them?

The fence sitter?
