Phantom kicks to the point DH can feel them

laurent23 · 23/09/2022 13:19

I've been getting baby like movements in the past week, really strong kick type feelings to the point if DH puts his hand on my belly he can feel 4/5 little kicks within 10 seconds when it's happening.

I've been getting my period each month so I really don't think I'm pregnant. But on the other hand I doubt gas or any other internal movements would occur this much over the whole week. I've had 3 DC, youngest is 1 and it feels exactly like pregnancy and a baby kicking. I can even see the movements in my belly.

What on earth is going on?!
AIBU to be certain I'm not pregnant?

I sometimes get this, it feels very much like early kicks and can sometimes be felt externally as well. I'm pretty sure it's some kind of muscle spasm. I have been getting them for years (on and off), so definitely not a baby.

PinkButtercups · 23/09/2022 14:03

If you can afford a private scan I'd probably just go for that.

laurent23 · 23/09/2022 14:09

Yes I think I'm going to book a private scan just to be sure. I don't want to waste doctors time as I'm probably not pregnant. But I do need the clarity so private will be the way to go.

I get this.
I assume it’s gas.

Honestly if all of the pregnancy tests are coming bank negative and you’re still getting your period then I think it’s a waste of money and time getting a scan.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/09/2022 14:28

I get this a lot....exactly the same as baby kicks/movement and visible from the outside.
Mine is muscle spasms.

HairyKitty · 23/09/2022 14:28

Wind can sometimes feel like this and you can also feel it from the outside

You can be pregnant and have periods, it’s rare but can happen. Have you tested?

This happened to someone in my family. Definitely go get a test, or speak to a doctor

Lcb123 · 23/09/2022 14:32

I'd get the pregnancy test, but I used to have quite bad IBS which caused spasms, I haven't been pregnant so can't compare but it could be IBS / gas

VioletInsolence · 23/09/2022 15:05

I used to have this and I think it was because my muscles didn’t go back together after my second pregnancy because I’m tiny and had a very large bump. You may be seeing and feeling the movement of gas and food through your bowels because there’s no muscle in front of your intestines.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 23/09/2022 15:11

Stand up straight op. Leave backwards. Press above your pubic bone. If you could indeed feel a dc your uterus would be obvious..

Sunbun19 · 23/09/2022 15:31

Have you had any other symptoms you had with your previous pregnancies?

OhDeniseReally · 23/09/2022 15:31

@ofwarren the scamp! 🤣

Year & years ago a woman came into the triage unit I worked in as she wasn’t pregnant but could feel kicking.

She had done tests, all negative. She and her husband had completed their family and did NOT want more children. She had gone to the GP who confirmed negative urine dip. Then he palpated and yes, felt kicking. So he sent her to our unit.

i admitted her, did a urine dip, yes it was negative. Then I palpated, no funds to feel, no fetal poles but then a kick. And another one! I tried to listen in but no fetal heart.

I called in a colleague and he repeated what I had done & immediately said ‘oh it’s aortal kick’ I had never heard of this but it’s basically the abdominal aorta pulsing. It feels like a baby kicking. I could not believe it. I’ve never felt it since but equally have never had to.

SanpellegrinoIsToryFanta · 23/09/2022 15:46

I had this earlier in the year and after a week or so I was so terrified I went to the hospital. Turned out to be in infection in my bowel, causing severe muscle spasms. I even asked the doctor in the hospital to triple check I wasn't pregnant, as this was exactly what it felt like. If I laid on my side, I could feel the spasms kicking into the palm of my hand too.

endofthelinefinally · 23/09/2022 16:01

If a fetus is big enough to feel kicks, your uterus would be easy to feel unless you have quite a bit of weight around your abdomen already.
I have delivered a couple of women who arrived in labour having genuinely had no idea they were pregnant, so it does happen.
It is perfectly reasonable to see your GP, as there might be something going on that needs investigating.
Mind you, a GP sent a lady up to my clinic with a sample of wee to get a pregnancy test. As soon as she took her coat off it was obvious she was about 28 weeks. She said the GP had barely spoken to her, so we didn't bother with the pregnancy test, I just did her bloods and booked her in.
I hope everything turns out OK, whatever you discover.

Maymaymay · 23/09/2022 16:20

I've had this- but it's just muscle spasms due to dehydration for me.

Iheartmykyndle · 23/09/2022 16:27

Have you had a section? I had one for my second and had these weird phantom kicks for about 18 months after. I guess it was gas because I've definitely not had another baby. 😆 I think the rummaging around for the section caused it because I didn't have it after my first baby.

KangarooKenny · 23/09/2022 16:56

It’s muscle spasms in your bowel.

Bentoforthehorde · 23/09/2022 16:58

I get this. I've had 4dc, all c sections, all massive bumps and my stomach muscles are buggered. Diastasis recti or something. In case any of that is relevant.
Freaked me out at first, but my youngest turns 5 next month and I'm used to it now.

CollieWobble22 · 23/09/2022 17:04

I have phantom kicks. DH can see it happen.

DS is 8 now, definitely not pregnant!

I have severe endometriosis and my GP said it could just be my uterus contracting for whatever reason (when I have periods, I pass huge clots! Sorry TMI)

Deffo freaky! I hate it and sometimes it wakes me up as they're so strong

Oh my gosh, this is so interesting!!

BadNomad · 23/09/2022 18:07

I get the feeling of movement central and to the left a lot with my IBS. But I also get "kick" sensations when my cardiac ectopic beats start up. I feel it quite low on the left, in the abdomen, below the ribs, rather than where you would expect to feel your heart thumping. Try to feel your pulse while you're having these episodes. If it's your heart, you'll feel the same thud in your pulse.

crosbystillsandmash · 23/09/2022 18:13

I've got coeliacs and when my tummy isn't great, it looks and feels like I'm pregnant!

cultkid · 23/09/2022 18:14

Have you got a Doppler
Can you feel your womb

Bizzyone · 23/09/2022 18:17

Im fairly preggers so clear kicks every day but I also get aortal pulse I can feel in belly which is very similar to actual kicks but its just my heartbeat felt in stomach (if that makes sense?!)...

Could it be that perhaps??
