To take toddler to midwife appointment

So have 3 day postnatal check up today for me and baby. Will it be ok for partner and toddler to come? I’ve had an emergency c section. Still not completely steady on my feet and obviously I can’t do much right now. We don’t have anyone to watch our 1 year old so would need to take her… wil they be ok with this? Or should I check? I can’t go otherwise and I can’t carry baby in car seat or drive

My toddler came to most of my antenatal appointments because they were on days that she wasn't at nursery, DP was at work and there was no point sorting childcare for a 15 min appointment. Very suprised they are asking you to go to them at 3 days post c-section, ask for a home visit!

You should all go, and perhaps ask the mw at the start which she prefers... DP can stay outside with the toddler but you'll need a hand, or you all go in.

I thought they came to you? They did with me

Not any more! Well not in our area anyway. With my first it was a home visit, 9 years ago, but with my 2nd and 3rd it was an appointment at the childrens centre. Its better in some ways as you dont spend all day waiting for the midwife, you just turn up at your appointment time.

Thanks everyone we all went and they were fine with me just sitting there and dp getting baby undressed and everything. Toddler was very well behaved too! Same again today as baby is a bit jaundice.

Fine to take your baby I'm surprised it's not a home visit I'd be asking for one's

To all those saying ask for a home visit, they don’t do them anymore in some areas!
with my second, I had to go in several times in thr first ten days for jaundice and other issues.

Yes I took DC1 and partner.
the age of home visit is over!

i had to go back 4 times in the first 10 days because of jaundice and weight loss (baby not me!) such a pain to get out of the house with everyone shortly after giving birth.

Might be area dependent but I had a c section earlier this year and at that stage it was a home visit. Got to say I am surprised they aren't doing one at that point. I was in a fair amount of pain.
